I lived in France during 23 years. I have 3 children.
We loved this little gem of a house in such a lovely neighborhood. The two yoga practitioners did their asanas on the narrow stone foot bridge over the canal. We found two wonderful cafés for breakfast! Delicious. Seiko was sooo lovely to explain the remotes to AC, ventilation in the bathroom, and has a notebook that explains all in English. I pray that we left the house in nice enough condition so that we may return! Two of the women rented kimono for a day, had their hair fixed, and we made friends with a sweet shop worker Masae and now have a new friend in Kyoto. Hint: the black notebook answers many questions and has a map to the 24 hour grocery Fresco, and a Family mart where you can get more coffee for the coffee machine if you run out! Seiko, good luck with your teenagers and arigato gozaimasu many times over! So great to stay in a true Japanese home. We are in love with Toto, the toilet! (USA should take lessons on cleanliness and litter from Japan)
Petite maison très jolie et bien située à Kyoto. Seiko a été d'une gentillesse remarquable et nous a aider à organiser notre séjour sur place.
Our five-night stay in Kyōto was simply wonderful. We looked forward to returning to the Maison Amanogawa each night after a day exploring the town.
Seiko met us on arrival, and patiently walked us through all the details of the house, including deciphering the Japanese on all of the various appliances. This cozy home had everything we were hoping for.
Highlights were the fantastic bath/shower, washer/dryer, quiet location, bicycle for errand running, and close proximity to Gion, Higashiyama, groceries, subway, and bus.
Highly recommended. We will certainly be back to Kyōto soon, and look forward to staying here again.
Super endroit, accueil parfait ! A recommander sans hésitation
Thank you so much Seiko for letting my family and I stay at your beautiful house. It was perfect for our family of four. The location was fantastic. The house was very close to the subway and it was walking distance to Gion. My kids also loved playing at the nearby river. Highly recommended. We were very sad to leave.
Seiko's place is by far the best airbnb accommodation we had in Japan for the month that we traveled from South to North. The location next to the canal was for peaceful and beautiful. The subway was a short walk away. Seiko furnished her home so elegantly. It really felt we returned 'home' after a full day sightseeing. And the bath. .. is so gorgeous.
We had the pleasure of meeting Seiko in the morning and she walked us through the apartment. She herself is a wonderful woman. We really wished we could have stayed more than 3 nights.
I would absolutely recommend her place to anyone visiting kyoto.
The location is very convenient as there is a subway station and bus station nearby. There is also a 24 hours convenient store located within less than 5 mins walk. Gion town is also within walking distance, whereby there are many cafes and restaurant for food as well as japanese snacks. There was 3 of us so the space in the house is just perfect. The place is beautiful as we totally love the way the place look like, which we believe Seiko-san has taken the time to decorate. There was a little living area, which we could spend time together. The place is also equipped with a washing machine, which is really great if you are staying for a long time. Not to mention, there is a bath tub to be enjoyed after a long day. Seiko-san was a wonderful host as she was there to greet us when we arrived and to explain to us how the things in the house works. However, the steps to the sleeping area is a little steep so do be mindful if there are elderly. All in all, it was a wonderful experience staying here.
Seiko's home is amazing! 5 of us including my 2 year old son stayed here for 3 nights. Seiko was very prompt and detailed when communicating with us making it very convenient for us. She spent some time patiently explaining things to us when we arrived and that was much appreciated. Her home is very well equipped with everything we need and more. It is a very interesting home with lots of character and quality amenities. We absolutely loved the location, which is within walking distance of Gion and the subway. Moreover, the shallow stream behind the house is such a beautiful sight. We would definitely love to stay here again. Thanks so much Seiko!
This apartment was FABULOUS!! We loved it. My husband and I stayed with another couple here and we all loved it! Our friends wanted me to mention they loved how clean and traditional this place was! We all said we would stay there again if we ever find ourselves in Kyoto. The bus system was very easy to get to know after a couple days. There is a cafe right around the corner we went to every day (Pooh's Cafe) - loved their breakfast. Back to the apartment, our host met us there and explained anything we would have questions about. She was very pleasant. This apartment is in the Higashiyama district so it's really easy to get to all the shops and restaurants there. It's also REALLY close to the Gion district which is amazing places to eat and you'll likely see real life Geisha's there. I highly recommend staying here - it's worth it!
Seiko is a brilliant hostess. Her little house is super charming- beautifully done, very tasteful. fabulous bathroom with lovely tub with a view of a tiny courtyard garden. Cute sitting area-great to have a sofa! Washing machine cum dryer. Very steep stairs (more like a ladder- not suitable for unfit people) to sleeping area. Very quiet alleyway. Great location for visiting Higashiyama tempels. V easy access to the rest of Kyoto. Close to subway stop. Lots of buses. Could not be more perfect!
