The View House in the Colony is right out of a fairytale. It is spectacularly beautiful and has, hands down, the best view of the sunset I have ever seen. It's large, spacious and well equipped. It's dreamily tuck deep in to the jungle of Nosara and come late afternoon you get a special visit from the local howler monkeys frolicking in your backyard. It is truly surreal. Katie (the property manager) was more than helpful. She was easily available through text at all times and even gave us tips on local bars and restaurants to visit during our stay.
The one thing I will note is that it's further from the beach, restaurants or anything for that matter, than I expected . The roads in Nosara can not be understated. A ten minute drive will cost you double that and it won't be smooth. We even earned a flat tire one evening, which caused us to rethink how we would approach the remainder of our stay.
If you are considering The View house I would recommend stocking it with groceries and enjoying the property. The onsite pool is heaven and if you go with a group you'll be more than entertained relaxing at home.
I would describe our experience as 'lost potential.'
First, let me say that Katie, our manager, was wonderful and very responsive to all our questions and issues during our stay. By far Katie did the best she could with the issues of the home presented to her.
It seems the owner is disenchanted with the property as the home has slipped in its care and upkeep. The house is up for sale which could be the cause for him to have little interest in its status. We felt the owner does not care about the renters of the home as he would rather do the least amount possible for the most amount of money. For the price we paid, we expected a pristine home, which we did not get.
First the exterior: the poolside lounges were filthy and broken to the degree they were not useable and the rattan tables on the patio were torn and past useful life. The bbq was disgusting and only partially worked (3 out of 5 burners were ok) and had not been cleaned nor serviced. The pool and patio were dirty upon arrival and it took 4 days to get the pool clean enough to see the bottom. The steel security bars on windows and doors were very rusty and oxidized and had not been kept up by any means.
Now for inside: the couch and all the pillows were filthy and not cared for, the main bath shower, which most of the family used, was weak and almost not functional, there was no tv service of any kind, there was no water the first day, the ice dispenser had thick lime build up, the spiral staircases although interesting is difficult to navigate and definitely not for children, the master bathroom was hot with no air conditioning and lastly all the bath and beach towels provided were old and worn.
The house has a nice little apartment as well, though we found it to be musty and smelled like sewer all the time and it had a big ant problem.
Overall, the general condition of the house was in a state of neglect.
We have rented many homes in this price range around the world, though this is the first one we have written a negative review on.
Lastly, we thank Katie for all she did for us. The area is amazing and is a great trip for a family.
The location is very close to all that you need in the area. A small market is a short walk away, as well as the beach for surfing and plenty of restaurants.
We had a rental car but ditched it since everything here is within walking distance.
The home is comfortable and secure, providing a full kitchen with utensils and a new fridge.
The beds are comfortable and have the rooms have lots of storage for your clothes, bags, etc.
My favorite amenity is the outdoor area, complete with a modest table, benches and a few swinging hammocks for your pleasure.
Great value for the area and I'd be happy to stay there again.
everything as expected, very quite wonderful place. the house is very close to the beach. the description of the house is what you find, excellent!
This home is in a perfect location with proximity to the beach and local restaurants and shops. We enjoyed the stay here, the place was very safe and clean. Katie and her family were very helpful with any questions that we had.
Very positive experience, Host were great and very responsive to any and all our request and needs . Property as described an photos accurate. Highly recommend this property for basic accommodations with good access to beach and restaurants.
This house is incredible. The photos don't do it justice -- it's beautifully designed, hidden away in the jungle, smack in the middle of two of Costa Rica's best beaches. Even watching a rainstorm from the expansive balcony is a real privilege. You'll need a truck with good suspension, but once you've got that, you're set. It's one of the coolest places I've ever stayed.
Katie was a wonderful host. Another AirBnB host cancelled my reservation 48 hours before I was due to arrive. Truly bad form. Katie saved the day by not only helping us make a last-minute reservation, but by sharing great Nosara tips and responding quickly when we had questions, or when the AC broke temporarily.
Beyond all of that, Nosara is a real gem, particularly for aspiring surfers. We spent half the day surfing, running or fishing and the other half eating at some of the town's great restaurants and listening to howler monkeys from the house. Not a bad way to spend a few weeks.
