Sarah's Big Island Guest House was a lovely, comfortable and welcoming place for us to begin our stay in Hawaii. the house is located in a quiet neighborhood in the hills above Kona, where it was cool at night and pleasant all the time. The house was exactly as advertised in the listing. Beds were comfortable. Garden was nice. Sarah was friendly and welcoming. She helped us find the place when we were a little lost at night and even greeted us with a pizza for dinner when we arrived late. She offered a wealth of information and recommendations about beaches and other island activities -- all accurate and helpful. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this place to others.
Glad you had a good time! Hope the rest of your trip went well! Mahalo for picking my place!
Sarah's house is cozy, clean, and super convenient. Driving to town is only about 15mins. Having breakfast in the sun at this house back yard enjoying the sound of silence is the best experience. I definitely recommend Sarah's house for people who plan to visit this part of big island.
Thanks Charley! It was so nice to meet you and have you stay at my place. Glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet of Kaloko and hope to see you again someday.
This place is perfect! I planned a last-minute getaway to Hawaii and didn't want to stay in an urban area. This guest house, while close to the main house, was far enough away from everything that it truly felt like being alone on the Big Island!
The description and excellent pictures (so many!) left no surprises. Sarah met me when I arrived, gave me a tour of the guest house, and helped me understand where the best and closest places are so I could enjoy my stay. I had a number of beaches in mind, and Sarah recommended Kua Bay, which was absolutely perfect. Small, safe, white sand, crystal clear blue water ... and Sarah had beach towels, chairs, and a cooler available!
Great to have you! Hope you make it back someday! Good luck on your new adventure! Mahalo! Sarah

We had a wonderful time at this house. We were looking for a place to stay near Kona, but not downtown, and at a higher elevation so we could sleep in a cooler climate. This place was perfect. Kona can get pretty hot, especially after you've been roasting on a beach all day, and it was really nice to drive up the hill into the lush vegetation of this neighborhood, and chill out in a fully equipped house, away from all of the other tourists. Sarah was a great host. Be sure to use her directions, because (website hidden) will not map you to the correct location.
We very much enjoyed staying at Sarah's Guest House. The house was extremely clean and had all the amenities we needed, which included a full kitchen (regular size stove, not a portable cooktop; fridge with icemaker/filtered water, microwave, etc). There's a dehumidifier in the house, which was definitely a plus when spending the day outside in the high humidity. Sarah was a great host in that she gave recommendations on places to go (best beaches, restaurants, etc). She even offered to let me use some of her snorkel gear, which was really nice!
Like most houses I noticed on the Big Island, the tropical landscapes in the neighborhoods and surrounding the houses are beautiful, but this can make it difficult to find the house you're looking for...especially at night. So if you arrive when it's dark, drive very slowly and look for the address on the mailbox, otherwise you could easily miss it, because the house is set back quite a ways. Great for privacy, but tricky when first arriving.
If like good coffee, Sarah's place is just a mile from the award-winning Mountain Thunder Coffee Plantation, which has been featured on several Food Network shows. It makes for a nice walk in the morning. I would definitely stay at Sarah's Guest House again, if I return to the Big Island!
Sarah's Big Island Guest House was fantastic! We felt so comfortable and welcome and the cottage was tastefully decorated. Everything was truly perfect. The neighborhood was great too, nice and quiet, away from downtown but only a quick 5 mile drive into town. If you are into hiking/walking, a great morning hike uphill to wake you up is just down the driveway and up the hill you go. We cooked every night, BBQ'ing twice, everything worked great and the kitchen was fully stocked with all dishes and cookware you need. Sarah was a wonderful hostess and met us in the morning after our late arrival the night before. She even had snacks in the kitchen for us in case we needed to eat after our flight delays. We give it five out of five stars, we'd give it six if we could. Thank you, Sarah!!!
Sarah's house is a perfect little getaway.
Note - this is not like staying at an all-inclusive beachside resort. Instead, it is like your own comfy home (with kitchen, bbq, washing machine, garden, basketball hoop and privacy) up and away from it all.
You stay in a cool, lush jungle... and in the most comfortable bed! It is about 20 minutes from town - which is just about perfect to feel like you are away from the hustle and bustle - but not so far that you can't just roll out of bed and hop in the car for a short trip to the beach.
Sarah and her family were perfect hosts (even bringing us amazing homemade treats for christmas)...
We could not have been more pleased with the experience. Grateful.
My stay at Sarah's Big Island Guest House was absolutely fantastic. Sarah was a wonderful host and her home was the perfect getaway at the end of the day after a busy day of touring the island. It is a must to rent a reliable vehicle (I do not recommend Scooter Brothers) as the Sarah's guest house is a solid 20 minute drive to the heart of the city. Sarah's guesthouse was fully stocked with everything we needed including beach towels and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay! Would highly recommend this place if you want something off the beaten path, beautiful and relaxing, and surrounded by lush green jungle!
Sarah's cottage was a perfect place for our stay. Privacy, comfort, and a wonderful setting in the ohi'a forest high above Kailua-Kona. Sarah made us feel very welcomed upon our arrival, and showed us everything we needed to know. Especially enjoyed the Big Island Revealed guidebook and the book about Hawaiian birds. We made good use of the propane grill to cook some teri pork we bought at the Farmers Market in Waimea. Take the drive to the top of Kaloko Drive to really get a better feel for this special part of the island. Thanks for a great experience, and hope we have the opportunity to return!
Thanks for the treats! Was a pleasure to have you guys!!!! Many Mahalos!
