I searched for years until I found this (URL HIDDEN) is my pride and joy...I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!!
I spent 2 weeks from 12 January in the apartment with my 2 daughters and it was fabulous. The apartment was spacious yet cosy, very well equipped and extremely comfortable. The pictures don't do it justice. We were there for the blizzard and it was quite magical to watch the snow cover the street, from the windows of the apartment. The art is unique and, all though it may not be to everyone's taste, it gave the apartment an interesting and edgy vibe. The location is fantastic. Great cafes and restuarants, grocery stores and pharmacies were all within a minutes walk. It is also just a 15 minute walk to Nolita and SoHo.
Alan was a great host. He was very helpful and obliging in the lead up to our visit and was really eager to make sure that we had a great stay in the apartment and in New York. He left a guide to the city and the local area, a welcome bottle of champagne and even a kangaroo printed dish towel - a sweet touch for we, Australians.
Everything about the apartment suited us perfectly. We loved the eclectic nature of the location in the East Village and the apartment was a perfect place to unwind and relax after full day of experiencing New York, or to recharge our batteries if we wanted to keep going and have a night out. The other residents in the apartment were really friendly and helpful, especially during the blizzard.
I would jump at the opportunity to stay in Alan's apartment again and highly recommend it to others visitng New York. It was the cherry on top of an incredible 2 weeks in an incredible city.
Alan was a fantastic host and his apartment is amazing!
From our first message exchange Alan was prompt and helpful with information about the apartment and answered our queries quickly. Alan kindly agreed to put up his Christmas Tree for us, which really was above and beyond host requirements but helped to make our Christmas stay in New York even more festive and enjoyable.
The apartment is even more spacious than the photographs show and is fully equipped with everything you might need. The fridge was ready stocked with all the essentials and even a bottle of fizz to welcome us. The lovely open plan layout is great, and the large comfy sofa is just what you need to chill out on after a long day sightseeing. Great shower too and comfy beds.
We absolutely loved the location, it was so much nicer to be in the East Village rather than the more touristy areas. We found brilliant bars, cafes and restaurants all very close by and Alan left us a list of his favourites which was very helpful. We would definitely recommend the Lucien French Bistro just a couple of blocks away, both the service and the food were superb!
We had a wonderful time in New York and the experience was greatly enhanced by staying in Alan's spacious apartment, it felt like a home from home and Alan was a great host, we would not hesitate to book again in future.

Our host, Alan, is an excellent communicator from the time of booking, giving directions from various airports to his place via numerous transportation modes, greeting us at the sidewalk to help us with luggage up to the flat, giving us a guided tour of how everything works to leaving with us a detailed folder with all the information anyone may need. In addition he makes himself readily available via text messaging and/or phone.
The location is excellent for exploring lower Manhattan as well as within easy reach of various subway stops. As the neighborhood is in the midst of gentrification, there are lots of very good individual restaurants and bars in the immediate area. The neighborhood has managed to retain its individuality and not fallen pray to the various chain restaurants that often dominate sother areas. Safety was never an issue when walking the area nite or day.
We spent most of our time in mid and upper Manhattan at museums and art galleries. Everything was very easy to reach within about 30 minutes walking and using the subway.
The very brightly lit flat is very thoroughly and thoughtfully stocked with supplies....including sparkling wine, fresh orange juice, butter and eggs to get one started the first morning. If you like to cook, you will find one of the most extensive herb and spice collections one can find in one place along with an excellent equiped kitchen. Thete is plenty of space allocated to put your clothes into drawers and/or hang in the closet.
The decor was everybit as lively as the pictures on the website present. The art and collections of many items on display are quite varied. Your eyes always found new items to look at and give one pause to think.
Staying at Alan's flat definitely adds a very fun element to one's trip to New York!
This apartment in the Lower East Side is a real gem. Firstly, the communication throughout from the host, Alan, reassured my friend and I that the listing was genuine, after encountering so many bogus listings. Everything was extremely tidy when we arrived and we instantly felt at home. Please do not be put off by the graphic art Alan mentions, it was interesting to see all the artefacts and pieces he has collected over the years on his travels. A great host, an even greater apartment, and most of all, I'd stay again in a heartbeat. 5*
This is a great apartment. Spacious yet cozy, and very well designed.
Alan's flat was wonderful! He was very patient during the booking process as there was a lot of to and fro-ing confirming the details etc... The flat was HUGE! Very comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. He was very kind to leave us a few groceries and a bottle of wine!Very sad to leave. Very Highly recommended with great restaurants and bars nearby.
Host was very communicative and quick to respond. I would definitely recommend staying here again.
It is a fantastic flat in a great location. Alan could not have been more helpful. He made us feel very welcome. The flat was very clean and is a perfect base to have in New York.
Thank you for having us !
Alan was a wonderful host. The apartment was even better than described. Alan was there to greet us and give us a complete rundown on the apartment and the the area including some great places to eat in the neighbourhood. We will definitely stay on our our next visit to NYC. Two thumbs up!!!!
My husband and I arrived for a 2 week stay at Alan's home. We already knew we were in for lovely accommodation from the pictures, but it was better than expected.
The space feels huge (I lost my husband a few times) and very tastefully decorated. Alan was mindful that some of his art may not be to our tastes, but we found it interesting.
His kitchen is a dream to cook in and you could melt into the couch it's so comfortable.
The area is second to none. The nearest subway is not a far walk and there are bus stops everywhere, but to be honest we walked mostly. We spoke to quite a few native East Villagers and they all said that they themselves never really leave the area, because everything they need is there. After 2 weeks we knew exactly what they meant. The location is second to none.
When booking I was a little concerned about the stairs up with no elevator but I shouldn't have worried at all. After the first few days I didn't even notice it.
As for Alan himself. From the moment I contacted him back in Dec he replied promptly and politely (even with the time difference between NY and London). While we were at his home he was on holiday himself but still managed to reply to emails I sent. He gave us space but was at hand if needed. He conducted the transaction very professionally but was equally personable. We didn't feel like we were staying in a museum, but of course we were mindful it was his home.
If you're looking for a beautiful place to stay in a fantastic location, then look no further. I couldn't recommend it more highly. We miss it already and look forward to heading back.
