Joe is a great host! He gave us everything we needed and even more so we would be at our ease. He also trusted us during this week end with his appartment . I can highly recommend him for a trip in Dublin! Also the flat is at a walking distance from the city centre and just next to the Guinness Storehouse. We really had a great time there!
Place was "cheap" enough but not what we expected. Fairly clean, however, shower curtain moldy; couches as extra sleeping spaces uncomfortable; constantly running toilet; looked like owner up and left and forgot to pick-up after himself. Good points: nice view of skyline; two comfortable beds in the bedrooms, transportation very accommodating; neighbor who took care of us while we were there tried to help us out with situations (like owner of building turning off stairway lights and then expecting us to go up curvy stairs in the dark); neighborhood seemed safe enough as well, but we didn't spend a lot of time there. Not the worst place to stay, however be wary of renting from this host.
My group and I really enjoyed our stay here and we really miss the place already! It's small and cozy and has homey feeling to it. Although it's in an old building, the apartment was well kept and clean. There's AC in one room only but the whole place pretty much stayed cool with the windows open. Good WiFi signal. Comfortable beds and sofas. No TV but there is TV projector. Either way, who needs TV when you're in Chicago!? It's in a very convenient location, the train station is in walking distance and it's only a 10 minute drive to downtown. There's lots of places to eat nearby and it's literally right next a pizza joint so you wake up the this amazing smell of pizza :) We didn't meet Joe in person but he was a great host. He responded right away to my messages and was able to accommodate us with our 3am arrival. I would highly recommend this place to anyone considering to stay.
First I must say that the day we left, it was 107 miserable degrees in Chicago, and that was pretty consistent the whole 4 days we were there. That in itself colored our experience quite a lot.
Positives : The Apt itself is very large, more than big enough for 4-5 people. Well laid out, and VERY CLEAN and homey....INSIDE the apt. The View from the roof is as spectacular as you are going to get, unless you are in a lakeshore hi-rise. The fireworks on the 4th were a truly amazing 360 degree experience. Joe was Great at communicating, leaving keys and instructions as to how things worked and such, courteous and responsive. The neighborhood is great, quiet, safe, and fairly convenient. Close to the medical complex, Chinatown, Greektown, freeways. But, definitely, not a neighborhood for first-time Chi-Town visitors, or trendy, clubbing, touristy types. The bus is 2 blks, the el is a VERY VERY long walk when it's hot. The neighbors were nice, friendly, not nosy, helpful if asked. And I've never seen so much toilet paper, or so many clean towels all in one basket. Very thoughtful. Also the plumbing, doors, electric, dishes and that kind of stuff was perfect and worked very well.
3rd floor walk-up in July; uugghh !! The building itself is rather rundown, stairwells and entry are not for the suburban soccer mom set. Lots of keys and locks and STAIRS !!
The Roof: We met my daughter there to pick up her daughter from us, and she literately almost peed herself when we went up to look at it. She does still cry on a merry-go-round though, and she's 29. It is a mite treacherous though, but we got used to it after a couple times up there. Do not expect wrought iron railings (or any at all for that matter), or patio chairs, or cute hanging planters, uh, no. Adults only. And don't drink too much and go up there, scary.
Joe has recently bought a window AC, and it will cool the living room adequetly if you close ALL the other doors, again, it was in the 90's-100's every day. We had to sleep in the living room cuz every other part of the place was a blast furnace.
No TV. Joe does have this projection thingy but we couldn't figure it out (really din't try very hard though)
No central air.
Parking is Awful. Free though.
If you want entertainment, action and a 7-11 on the corner - this is NOT the neighborhood.
All in all- the price is reasonable....it is clean and well cared for ....and Joe seems like a great guy who is really thoughtful and nice.
Thank you for your visit. Great communication.
Lovely couple. No hesitation in recommending as guests.
