Hi, I'm a Kiwi who's lived in Queenstown for 7 years. Love Queenstown and love meeting and hosting new people!
Wonderful place with great views, very happy with our choice. Matt was great to deal with, very efficient and provided dining recommendations in the city.
Mat was a very welcoming host. He is very sociable and loves to share his flat with other people so it's more like he is a flatmate than a host.
The room was very big and there is a lot of space to put your clothes. Especially the ensuite bathroom is nice. The room also has a balcony which is also accessible from the room next to this bedroom.
We've been a little bit shocked about how dirty the flat was. The bedroom was just dusty but the shared rooms like kitchen, diningroom and living room have been very unclean, unsanitary and soiled. It looked like the tables, the fridge and the microwave haven't been wiped for weeks. This was sad because the flat by itself was designed really aesthetic.
I have mixed feelings about this place. THE PLUS : - Nice and wide bedroom, -Very large and comfy bed, -Nice view on the "Remarkables" mountains and the Wakatipu lake, -Private and modern bathroom, -Central location for exploring the surroundings (Queenstown, Glenorchy, Arrowton, Frankton), -Privacy well respected by the host. THE DOWNSIDES : - The place is not so easy to find amongst the different buildings (be sure to read thoroughly the house manual before going as there are lots of important info. in it like the apartment number, the wifi password, where is the room in the apartment, etc.); - It's not obvious to know where to park your car when you first arrive (don't park in front of Mat's garage - he told me after I had parked there, either at the leftside of the flat entrance or in the free parking spaces a bit higher). Depending on where you park, you sometimes need to make sure that your handbreak works well, because the place is set in a hilly area ; - The host and the (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) were either absent (most of the time) or quite indifferent to me, probably because we don't share so much in common (I suppose... I'm not really into parties and drinking like many people staying around Queenstown, more into hiking and extreme sports). I tried to initiate some conversation but I stopped after a while because Mat barely answered to me and seemed to be busy with his work, his moving coming in the next few days, video games, etc. What I usually like about Airbnd is being welcomed by a local host, have a more personal touch, but at this place, I felt more like being at an impersonal hotel. And I had to find out how everything worked by myself (e.g. oven, washing machine, etc.) because Mat hadn't showed me around at first. It was not so difficult to sort it out but just didn't feel warm welcomed there ; - The dirtyness and messiness of the communal spaces, especially the kitchen. When I arrived, I had no place to put my food in the fridge/freezer or elsewhere outside ; I had to replace other stuff in the fridge to get some space and to keep some food in my room also. There was always some dirty dishes around, greasy stuff on the oven, empty beer and wine bottles, etc. But the room itself was quite clean, except from the mirrors that had some wiping traces (have probably been cleaned too quickly) ; - There is big traffic on the street so sometimes you can wait for a while before being able to get out with your car. But it's great that you don't hear the traffic in your room because the flat in lower in the hill down the road ; Over all, I'm not able to fully recommend to stay at that place. Personnally, I prefered Glenorchy over Queenstown (too busy), a small quiet town at 45...
Mat was a great guy to stay with. It was my first night in the country and he managed to show me a fun night even through my jet lag and general disorientation. He even gave me a ride to a couple spots I needed to get to, which was super helpful. I felt like I definitely lucked out in staying with mat.
Our staying at Mat's place was good because of the location... And that was all. We were planning to get there mid afternoon until he wrote to let me know that the room wouldn't be cleaned out until 6 pm, so we decided to better get there after that time to avoid any bad experience when looking at a dirty room... At the end, they just changed the bedclothes. All the room furniture was dusty so I cleaned it out and also I washed the bath tube since it was full of hairs...
On his listing description, it says "feel like home and use the kitchen", but believe me, it was quite difficult to feel like home in a dirty kitchen like that one. Anyway... We didn't spent a lot of time there, but definitely it wasn't like the pictures where everything looks clean and tidy. First bad experience using an airbnb listing.
Place is conveniently located not too far from town. Mat was extremely easy to communicate with and his (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) were very helpful during my stay.
My stay here was absolutely smooth. Mat is really nice and kept checking if I have everything I need. The housemates are nice too. The place has incredible location. Just 5mins drive into town on main Frankton road. The master suite has a great view, nice and modern interior and spa bathtub. I really enjoyed my stay and would come again. Thanks Mat!
Perfect view and only a five minute drive to the centre of Queenstown.
Good stay, nice and clean and easy to get in and out. Cheers
Love the private room and bathroom! Especially the jacuzzi tub in the ensuite bathroom. The view is awesome too! Conveniently located along Frankton Road, it takes about 5mins to drive to Queenstown. Parking is very easy too. Definitely coming back here when I'm in town. :)
It was a pleasure to meet Mat. He was very nice to deal with and left the flat clean and tidy. I would recommend him highly.
Mat is a super chilled out guy, very respectful, clean and tidy. He got along with everybody in the house and was great to have around ... the few moments he was around as he's very independent. It was a real pleasure having him. You're welcome to stay any time you're in town.
It was lovely to have you as a guest in my home. All the best with your business and I hope you will come back and stay again.
Mat is a terrific guest! He is laid back, friendly, social, and a top-notch professional when it comes to his work. We very much regret not having an optimal bed during his stay, and despite his amiable candor at resolving the situation in calm, we are still remorseful over what occurred and have rectified it with a proper bed. We hope he will not overlook our space should he return to Auckland. We highly recommend him as a guest should he come passing through your city.
Mat is a very easy going guest and fitted in with our other guests very well. Also as a real Kiwi he was able to provide lots of useful advice. We would be happy to host him at any time in the future.
Mat was with us for one night and was and was a great guest very friendly and good to have a chat with and we would gladly recommend Mat as your guest or your host and he is welcome back to stay with us anytime
Mat stayed 5 nights here while on a business trip. He was a perfect guest, very polite and considerate of others in the house. I would have no problem recommending him as a guest to another host. I wish him all the very best with his new business ventures.
Mat was a great guest. Communication was excellent and they left the house very tidy
Mat is a very nice and fun kiwi guy. A real one ! He was fun to have around and he is also very interesting. During his 4 nights stay he was respectfull clean and tidy. Highly recommended to other hosts.
