The house is very cute and clean. Not much to do in the town of Shenandoah, but it is a convenient base for visiting Luray Caverns and the Shenandoah National Park.
We had a wonderful weekend here and definitely want to return again.
This was my first stay as an AirBnB guest, after hosting for several months. Erin's and Matt's place was terrific. It was very clean, extremely spacious, and had a beautiful living/dining/kitchen area that looked out at the train tracks. There are windows all around, two beautiful, clean bathrooms, and a very modern kitchen with lots of counter space. Matt and Erin were also very responsive, as we had a few questions about the area. We would highly recommend (email hidden), and would do it again!
We had a wonderful stay at Matt & Erin's Historic Shenandoah River Getaway. Matt and Erin were very helpful before our stay and let us know the best places to eat, what to do in the area and some local attractions. They responded quickly to any questions before and during the trip. The house was clean, neat and well-kept. The kitchen and bathrooms were modern and spacious. The living room/dining room area was also very open. It is centrally located to many major hiking trails, rafting and shopping. We really enjoyed our stay at the end of June 2014 and we look forward to coming back again!! We would highly recommend this property. Many thanks
Matt and Erin were great to work with and answered our emails and calls quickly. My family lives a short distance away in Elkton and we came to attend a family wedding so this place was ideal for us! We loved the open area of kitchen/dining/family room because we had our grandchildren and their parents so the family TOGETHER made our time in Matt and Erin's AirBnB memorable and fun! Our grandchildren LOVE trains and could look out the windows and watch the cars shifting to different tracks and Poppy (granddad) could explain it all since he worked for N&S Railway for 39+ years. All in all it was a great experience even though our focus was the wedding and the Father's Day picnic on the Shenandoah River.
We all walked down the sidewalk at sunset and the littles were able to run up and down the sidewalk and enjoy some fresh valley air before going to bed....a great small town experience!
(email hidden) in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Our stay at Matt and Erin's gorgeous flat couldn't have been better. Plenty of space for our boys to run around, plus great accommodations for cooking and relaxing.
The views of the mountains from the windows are incredible to wake up to each morning, and it's just a short drive to all the big and small places in the valley.
We were slightly worried you'd be able to see or feel the trains because they're so close, but those century old 12-inch thick brick walls keep the sound out and the inside the right temperature.
Because the town is so small, we felt safe letting our sons play outside in the neighboring fields and backyard. And you can see them from virtually any corner of the flat.
Matt and Erin did the most to make us feel at home, with constant contact, a superbly clean place on arrival, and even supplies to make a spaghetti dinner our first night.
If you're thinking about visiting the valley, definitely put this place high on your list.
Matt & Erin's place was the perfect place for our visit! We were four people (two couples) and the place had more than enough space for us; It can comfortably accommodate three couples and seven people total. The beds are comfortable and the renovated interior looks great. As for the location, the apartment is located on a quant street and overlooks the train tracks. We enjoyed the slower pace of Shenandoah and were fortunate enough to get out for a few hikes in the beautiful surrounding parks. As for the hosts, we couldn't have asked for more helpful and responsive hosts than Matt & Erin — Not only did they communicate perfectly before our arrival, they were responsive with recommendations on restaurants and hikes. We highly recommend others choose Matt & Erin's place as their 'home away from home' while in the area!
We visited with 4 teenagers and 2 adults. The space was spacious, clean and well equipped. Its worth a visit if you are into hiking, rivers and the outdoors. Everything is within a 25min drive.
The only little dowmn side was that there is no place to sit and have a tea or coffee outside.
We had a great time playing basketball with the local teenagers just around the house. People were all very friendly.
My family of 4 (2 young boys) enjoyed a fantastic couple of days at Matt & Erin's place. The location was perfect for us. About an hour to Charlottesville (we visited Monticello) and right next to the Massanuttens (great, less traveled place to hike).
My boys also liked calling it "the building." Inside was very clean and provided very nice, open space to relax together. We hope to return!
The unit is lovely, exactly as pictured. We loved the atmosphere of the apartment and the town. This was our base for visiting Natural Bridge, a Safari near Natural Bridge, Luray Caverns and Skyline Drive.
The locals are refreshingly nice.
Matt and Erin were perfect hosts and provide excellent communication. I knew that they would be available for anything that I needed, and they provided advice on eating places in town and near Luray Caverns.
I will definitely be back just to relax and enjoy the town. We were a little busy with sight seeing this time.
Thanks for a great 3 day weekend!
I had a terrific 3 night stay. The place is clean and spacious, with a large kitchen layout. It proved a great jumping off point for my excursions into Shenandoah National Park and for visiting craft breweries. There was a lot of train activity across the street, but was not noticeable from the bedrooms. Thanks Matt & Erin.
