Jeannette was a very friendly host. I got a great nights sleep at a very reasonable price. It was my first time with AirBNB and it was a very positive experience.
Regan cottage: Some of the descriptions were off. This is a very small house (600 sq/ft) that will fit 2-3 people at the most. The kitchen is actually a kitchenette, with an apartment sized stove and regular fridge. J.kindly provided some snacks. The problem was that there wasnt the usual appliances- coffeemaker, can opener, toaster, or microwave. There was one pot and one pan, and a drawer of small utensils no place to realy sit and eat. There was a very tiny bathroom with 2x2 ( not very clean)tight shower. The main bedroom has a queensize bed that was fine for me,uncomfortable for my mate.A small area is in one corner for hanging your clothes; otherwise there is no room for other furniture. The office consists of a Shelve across 2 walls, and a small tv (website hidden) dvd player, so you have to bring your own or a laptop. There is WiFi, however. The livingroom has a couch that folds down to a full size sleeping area. There is also a small ottoman. J. offers an airmattress that my kids said was more comfortable than the couch, but we put it on the floor in the livingroom on a questionable rug.Our main problem was our missing the fact that 2 dogs usually live in the house. Yes, it was in the listed description at the bottom, but not readily noticeable.I especially missed it after J.requested no dogs allowed in her description.Since the house had no screens on the windows-not unusual for the area- we were afraid to open the windows in the afternoons-80+degree heat-because of the mosquitos and flying bugs that come out. Well, that only made the dog smell worse. We vacuumed, only to find that the vacuum was stuffed chockful of dog fur. After cleaning it out,we still had the smell in the house.Once we complained to J,she had us call the cleaning woman who shampooed the rug and mopped the main rooms. It was much more tolerable and we were able to sleep after this. The cleaning lady said that she had only been requested to clean the kitchen and bathroom the week before we got there, hence the questionable job.I understand that this was a small house and one always gets used to the smell of your own house, but the amount we were charged compared to the area was quite high. We could have gotten a room(suite) at the casino hotel for less that half what we paid here(we checked). I guess I could have lived with most of this since I chose to come here because of the close proximity of the beach,as described, except- there was no beach. Due to the snow melt, the water level is unusually high in Tahoe and most of the area beaches were reduced in size.Several blocks away,Regan's beach is actually an all grass park now, with a tiny area of sand, off the stairs, that was taken up by the paddle boards when we were there. It was a pleasant, clean, safe "beach",just no sand to sit upon. We had a wonderful time in Tahoe-some of the beaches a little further out were great and the hiking and sailing were fun.J's house would be appropriate for some young folks who dont want all the usual accoutrements of a motel room or even a vacation rental- I would just recommend that she lower her rate QUITE a bit to avoid disappointment, let the cleaning woman do her thing throughout the whole house, and let ppl know that the pictures of the "beach" are not up to date.
