Hello world! My name is Dragon. I'm happy to start hosting on Airbnb and look forward to introducing you to this wonderful city of Beijing.
Called Dragon once we check out of Beijing airport at 7am and we took the subway to Dragon's apartment. within an hour we arrive in Caofang station and the he was, Dragon waiting for us at Caofang station as early as 8am!
We came in a big family, all 7 of us, my wife, mum, dad, brother, 2 sisters and myself and it can accomodate all of us.
There's 3 rooms, 2 person in each room and the 7th person sleeps on the sofabed in the living room. Each room was provided with blanket except for the sofabed.
When we were there, outside temperature was -10 degree celsius. The central heating system works fine, and there's also the airconditioner that could also act as heater. During our first night, we can't figure out how to use the airconditioner as the remote control's display was in Chinese, we called Dragon and within half an hour he showed up at the doorstep.
The apartment is clean, true to the displayed pictures.
As we came in a big family,we prefer to cook ourselves and the apartment is fully equip with all the necessary cooking equipment like electric stove, rice cooker, pots, pans and all the utensils.
Raw materials like rice, live fish and fresh vegetables are easily acquired at the nearby market. There's also a lot of restaurant just minutes walk from the apartment, McDonalds, chinese restaurants, Japanese Restaurants, you name it, everything! As we are Muslims, Muslim restaurant is also minutes walk away from the apartment
The Caofang subway station is 5 minutes away, and the subway system in Beijing is superb. We didn't hire any driver or rent cars as it is more convenient for our big family to travel via subway. And by the way, subway fee is only RMB2 per person per entry. You can go everywhere just by using the subway, Forbidden City, Summper Palace, Olympic Park, Silk Market, etc. But for Great Wall of China in Badaling, you will need a tourbus and that is where Dragon will help as he works with a travel agent company and the fee for a 1day trip is quite reasonable, only RMB120 per person.
All in all, our trip to Beijing was awesome and staying in Dragon's apartment, with the rate that cheap, its truly amazing.
p/s : I even gave Dragon my last packet of Malaysian cigarette before we left as a gift for being a wonderful host
The owner was very helpful and kind to guide us and show us everything we needed during our stay. The apartment was very clean and well organized.Just 5 minutes walk from subway station.
We spent 2 nights and have mixed reviews. The apartment was clean, spacious, and true to the photos online. However, the location is extremely far from the city center and not at all convenient. There is nothing in the surrounding area – no shops, extremely limited restaurants, minimal taxis. The building itself looks very industrial and old, but the apartment is newly renovated inside.
Dragon’s father met us at the subway station, walked us over the apartment and showed us around inside. This was very efficient.
The beds are traditional HARD Chinese beds. That was expected, but not easy to sleep on. The bedding was clean. There were only 2 beds made. We had to search for a quilt for the third bed. Only 2 large bath towels and a number of hand towels provided. The WIFI worked fine.
The website states the apartment has heat. It does NOT. It is on the centrally controlled public heating system. It was 35 degrees at night and there was NO heat. There was not enough bedding due to the cold. The apartment does have A/C units, which also work as space heaters. The first night, we asked for the remote controls to these units to turn them on and they were not provided. It was only on the second night, after asking again and complaining how cold the children were at night, that they told us where they had hidden the remotes. After turning on the A/C heaters, the apartment became bearable in temperature.
Dragon works at a travel agency. We had him arrange discounted tickets our second night to the Red Theater Legends of Kung Fu show. The show was great, a highlight of the trip and we highly recommend. Have a plan on how to return to the apartment after the show. Taxi drivers will NOT want to drive out to the apartment because it is so far outside of town. We walked and took the subway every time we left and returned.
There were a number of fast food restaurants a few blocks away – turn right out the gate, go straight past the subway entrance, and they will be a few blocks down on your right. We turned right at the subway the first night, walked down about a half a mile, and found a Chinese restaurant that was quite good. It was on the left before the next main intersection. It was clean, service was good, and the food was tasty. The restaurant inside the apartment building did not look too clean and we did not try it. There are a number of convenience stores throughout the housing development that will have water, drinks, yogurt (good for breakfast), crackers, etc.
We would not stay there again due to the inconvenient location, lack of shops and restaurants, and the heating issues. However, if those do not concern you, the apartment itself was clean and had plenty of room.
It was very pleasant stay. The apt is fully renovated. The interiors are new and well cleaned. The air conditions are OK. Free wi-fi Internet speed is too good. It's just a few minutes away from the Caofang Subway station which is really helpful. There are couple of mini stores in the same building where daily needs items are available. Many restaurants are around the apt. As a whole stating here is the best value for money. Perfectly suitable for couple, family or business tour people.
Our experience renting with Dragon was excellent. He met up with us at the metro, walked us 5 minutes to the apartment and gave us a detailed tour of how to use all the facilities. Very professional and thorough. Additionally, he prestocked water for us in the fridge, which was a really nice gesture.
