Wonderful new, clean place where it was possible to relax. The entire guest house (which is nice and big) was brand new. Nice and simple design. The Olson's were very friendly (we only talked with them for 10 minutes at the outset, did not talk with them after that) and said that if we had any problems, they would help us out. We also came a few hours before their "check-in" time, but it was not a big deal and they let us swing by to drop our stuff off a bit early. So, if you want a new, relaxing, country place only about 25 minutes from downtown Portland with lots of privacy, this is the place for you.
I could not have asked for a better experience. Our host was very gracious and accommodating, but also very respectful of our privacy. Absolutely beautiful property and location. I will definitely be going back!
My wife and I had a great time at Oliver's place. It was really clean and cosy and comfortable. Being a little bit away from the city, the farm is really quiet at night, which is great for sleeping! If I am in the area, I would certainly like to stay here again.
What a lovely way to unwind! Oliver and family have created a well-appointed, but not fussy, space - Perfect for the couple that wants to enjoy some nature and serenity, within arm's reach of Portland and all its charms. This is a pristine, beautiful space, with little touches to make it feel really welcoming and comfortable. The hosts couldn't have been friendlier. So nice to explore Sauvie Island, and still be only minutes from restaurants, shops, etc. We would definitely stay here again!
We knew right away that this AirB&B was special. It was our first AirB&B experience and it was absolutely wonderful. The Olson family was accommodating and at the same time gave us all the privacy we needed. The place itself was so beautifully designed, with special attention paid to each detail. We felt as if we were in Europe. We highly recommend this place and will most definitely be coming back as soon as possible.

The Olsons are great folks and they made our stay very easy and accommodating. Their retreat is a perfect place to call home when you are in the Portland area because it provides a lovely, natural spot to "retreat" back to after a day spent in the urban-ness of Portland -- thus guests can have the best of both worlds. It is located on beautiful Sauvie Island, a 20 minute (easy) drive to the downtown area. The island has beautiful farms, a park in which to hike, and a public beach. There is also a "park and ride" city bus stop 2 minutes from the retreat for prospective guests who would prefer not to hassle with driving and parking downtown. (there is no gas station on the island.) Parking is very safe if you want to leave your car there thru to the evening.
The retreat is a "guest house" built by the Olsons, and it is adjacent to and in close proximity to their main house. They respected our privacy and never made us feel as though we were infringing on theirs. They welcome guests who want to enjoy their huge, wonderfully-landscaped yard and graciously offered vegetables straight from their lavish garden.
The retreat has all the amenities -- a large bathroom (with a great shower), a kitchenette with full-size refrigerator, a microwave, and dishes (although there is no stove/oven for those who like to cook a full meal -- but...you're in PORTLAND and you should eat out as much as possible anyway!) The bed is super comfortable and well-suited to 2 adults. There is no television (again, you're in Portland so you shouldn't be watching the tube anyway), but the free wi-fi was good enough for netflix and hulu.
For anyone looking to go to Portland and have a place to relax, you cannot go wrong with the Olson place. We look forward to staying there again if we are ever in that area again.
(A side note: there is a great little bar/restaurant in Linn, OR - about 5-10 minutes from the retreat - called "the Decoy" that has great food. And they are open til 10pm. Since there is nothing really on Sauvie Island, it is the perfect place to get a late bite to eat on the way home to the retreat from Portland. It's the kind of place where you can rub elbows with a few locals and get to know a more personal side of the folks who call Portland home. Definitely check it out!)
As great as the last time.
Oliver was a great guest. He was very respectful and the house was left spotless.
