Your hosts are Philip and Tina Brennan.
Philip has been property managing for the past 15 years. Before that he was in a top local band.
Tina bakes and is famous for her carrot cakes !!
This is a really attractive beach-side location. The apartment is clean, nicely decorated, and fully equipped with all the modern amenities, including reliable wifi. It's walking distance to a number of places to eat down the recently built boardwalk. And just 30 yards down the beach, there's an area of ocean that is sheltered by reef and clear of rock, which at low tide makes it a wonderful salt-water swimming pool for laps or snorkeling.
One evening, while I watched the sunset off in the other direction, a young man knelt and proposed to his love. I snapped the scene of the two, framed in palm trees, as she said Yes. (Popping down to get his email, I sent them the picture.)
Philip and Tina graciously accommodated my late-night arrival and, though I didn't ask much else of them, seemed quite prepared to help with any needs. The light sleeper would want to be aware that the house abuts the main street, which is heavily trafficked, so there is noise enough to sometimes distinguish itself from the sounds of the ocean coming from the other end of the house.
Well recommended! I feel lucky to have gotten the place on short notice (due to another's cancellation.) My temporary downstairs neighbors said the were planning to return the next year, and it's easy to see why.
Everything about this place was just great. The house is on the beach, few meters from the ocean. The doors of the living and the master bedroom open to a very comfortable terrace/garden area where one can lie in the hammock, sit comfortably in the shadow or have dinner, still few meters from the ocean. The house is very tastefully furnished and spacious. All little necessities in the kitchen and the whole house were provided - salt, towels, coffee to get you started etc. The water in front of the house is quite safe for swimming, surrounded by shallow riffs, with a lot of other nice bays at walking distance. Plenty of restaurants and a few shops in the direct neighbourhood. Philip and Tina are the most friendly and helpful hosts.
Spent a week at the Villa while visiting Barbados, and had an amazing time!
The villa has plenty of space, and is airy and bright. We loved the pool in the back for cooling off during the day, and spent a few evenings eating dinner and drinking wine at the table by the pool.
The villa is in a great location. 2 blocks from the beach, and close to restaurants and the grocery store. There is also a bus stop about two blocks from the house.
We loved Barbados, and would definitely recommend this place for a relaxing home away from home.
This is a fantastic villa in a great location just over the road from Accra Beach. Philip and Tina were brilliant hosts and we felt as though nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend to anyone planning a holiday to Barbados. Thank you
This was one of the most incredible places. It felt extremely homely and was right on the beach. My friends stayed up the road but would come down to enjoy the splendid sunset on the balcony. Highly recommend staying here.
Philip was a pleasure to deal with.
We spent 12 nights at Lower Swanage in December 2013 and loved it. We would recommend it to anyone who wants an apartment in Barbados. Philip and Tina were great hosts, and we took advantage of their preferred cab driver and car rental as well. Tina also had lots of tips for us. The apartment is located right on the beach, and as advertised the sunsets from the porch are spectacular. We watched them almost every night. The beach itself is nice but not great for swimming. You can sort of wade in, but you're better off taking the boardwalk 1+km down to Accra beach, which we did more than anything else while we were there. We would rent a couple chairs and an umbrella and alternate sitting and swimming for hours on end. Accra is pretty mellow-we weren't hassled but there were guys who would serve as waiters to bring you drinks or food.
The condo itself is perfect for two people, well-cared for, and with a reasonably well-outfitted kitchen for a rental. We cooked a lot (buying food at the farmer's market and the Supercentre Big B grocery) and the kitchen was great to work in. A/C is bedroom only but we found that not to be an issue. Wi-fi was plenty fast and when it went down one night they came over and fixed it promptly. The TV has tons of channels though we didn’t use it (they appear to get some US stations over IP). Furniture was plenty comfortable, including the king size bed. The apartment is an easy walk to lots of restaurants, or hop a bus for a quick ride more or less anywhere you'd want to go. The car rental was great for us as we got to see more remote parts of the island--the nature reserve, the northeast, east and southeast coasts, old signal towers, an old plantation, and so on.
The apartment is an easy walk to stuff (other than some somewhat inconsistent sidewalks), and we enjoyed Mama Mia's and also The Good Life and Chilly Moo's near Accra. Tapas and Naru were okay but a little pricy for what you get. On the other hand, the views at Tapas and Naru are amazing. But there are lots of options around. We also enjoyed Café Sol in St Lawrence Gap. I’ll add that I’m vegetarian and had lots of choices on the trip. Finally, El Tigre catamaran tours are also highly recommended, and they pick you up and drop you off. We did the 5-hour snorkeling trip and wished we’d had more time.
We are definitely planning on coming back.
We just spent a week there. Philip was helpful and being close to the city was great. The house is lovely and at a great location as far as the beach is concerned. Unfortunately the close proximity to the road can make it difficult to sleep if it bothers you.
We had a great time in Barbados. Philip and Tina are the best hosts and this place is even better then it looks in the pictures. Nice restaurants (Chomper's, MOJO, Tiki Bar...), supermarket...everything you need just a few steps from the door. Will be back here for sure...
We had a wonderful time at Lower Swanage. Tina and Philip were wonderful hosts. Whenever we had a question or a problem to solve they were there for us. We´re definitely planning to go back to Barbados/Lower Swanage.
The accommodation were 2nd to none. It was our first time to Barbados to attend a wedding. We decided to look for a private beach spot close to the hotel where the rest of our friends stayed. It was the perfect beach spot and the envy of all family and friends. Tina was very helpful, responded quickly to inquiries and also organized a taxi pick up from the airport. We will definitely look to come back soon :-)
