Our host Barry was wonderful. When we arrived, he made us feel welcome in his home with a glass of red wine. His home is perfectly simple and prepared for guests. Some basics in the fridge, a few bottles of wine and a cellphone for us to use whilst staying at his place. A great little collection of travel books and other books for reading whilst staying at his place, which really helped us slow down and enjoy our stay. The home was beautiful and tastefully decorated. The village was very quiet and out of the way. Perfect if you want to really unwind but not far enough away for day trips out. We fell a little bit in love with Italy, Umbria and the Italian way of life and staying at Barrys home was the perfect end to a wonderful holiday.
This was the most enchanting and unique apartment to stay in. The terraces and gardens were delightful, the room charming, the position incredible and the views were truly unbelieveable - you could not possibly hope for a better outdoor terrace in Rome. Everything in the description was accurate. Being our first airbnb experience we didn't know what to expect, but our host was welcoming, friendly, communicative and full of local knowledge - from how to get the bus in, to where to find the paintings we wanted to see. It was the ideal place to stay in Rome and we can only hope for such a lovely experience in the future.
A view from the top : un petit bijou surplombant Rome, posé sur le toit, à la fois en plein coeur de la ville mais loin de ses bruits, à l'image de Barry, notre hôte, chaleureux, accueillant, très présent et discret à la fois ! Une très belle découverte !
My husband (26yo) and I (27yo) stayed at View from the Top for five days during our honeymoon, and were very glad we did. Barry personally welcomed us to this beautiful apartment and provided us with a thorough tour. It is clear that Barry takes pride in this home based on the cleanliness and small extras he provided. We thoroughly enjoyed having breakfast on our private deck with the gorgeous view. We found the bed to be very comfortable and the apartment to be the perfect size for just the two of us. The location is perfect with a grocery store just one block away, numerous restaurants, and a very easy to navigate bus system with a stop across the street.
Barry provided us with suggestions for where to eat and visit, not just for Rome, but for our other Italian destinations as well. Barry was also very helpful, providing us with umbrellas one rainy morning, printing our museum tickets for us, and providing fruit and champagne in the room. I must say, it was nice to have access to a washing machine and air conditioning as well.
The one piece that may be difficult for some, is that there is an elevator that will take you up five flights of stairs, then one flight that you will have to walk. We did not find this to be a problem for us as it is a large marble staircase with a railing, which was not difficult to climb (a small price for such an amazing view). Should we return to Rome, we will definitely look to stay at View from the Top again and we have no reservations recommending this lovely apartment to others.
Our experience at Barry's place was fantastic, exactly as expected. The view from our terrace as well as the rooftop terrace was amazing and perfect for a few glasses of wine. Location was also great, central to all major sites but still in a nice quiet spot. Barry was lovely & very helpful. Highly recommended.
The man or woman who does not take delight in this beautiful, ancient, rural refuge needs to take a long, cold bath and another holiday. Here, time itself seems to linger for a while and enjoy a rooftop Campari; noise, exhausted form its urban toil, whistles a pastoral tune; space and light, contented, stretch out their legs and switch off their iphones (or at least put them on silent). And the man or women who does not enjoy the company of Barry, the wonderful, thoughtful, cerebral owner, needs to take an even longer, colder bath. We loved staying at the Kind Tower.
We had an amazing four days in Rome at Barry's lovely studio! It is the perfect location - within walking distance to all the major sites. The patios are amazing, the perfect place to enjoy a drink in the evenings before heading out to dinner. Barry is a fabulous host, very quick to respond to questions and he gave us great suggestions on where to eat and what to see. We will definitely try to stay here again next time we make it to Rome!
Barry's apartment was very clean, comfortable, quiet and very well equipped. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable! Nothing to fault at all. The view from the rooftop terrace was amazing! Location was perfect. Barry was also the perfect host - extremely helpful, responsive and knowledgeable. Would love to return and would recommend it to everyone.
English : My friend and I just went back from Rome : what an experience ! The studio is just like the photos : comfortable bed, small kitchen but functional and a likely bathroom with an italian shower, everything with a huge library with an excellent taste for decoration. Situated on the Corso Vittorio-Emanuel II, we have all the benefits (bus, location, supermarket...) without disadvantages (noise of the street/cars). Without talking about terraces... One word : Wow ! They could be considered as monuments. We had a private terrace with a view on the Villa Borghese as horizon line, a shared terrace with Barry and the last one which dominates Rome and offers you a 360° view. Speaking of Barry, he is the true definition of the word "host" : welcoming, warm, always helpful without being oppressive leaving you with full independence. It could be the main reason of this trip!
