We had a great stay at Mindy's apartment. The location is great, and the East Village is a lot of fun. The apartment is clean and comfortable, and the A/C works great. Dawn, who manages and cleans the place, was very friendly and available, although we didn't end up needing her services. All in all, this is exactly how Airbnb is supposed to work. Thoroughly recommended.
This was my first experience with Airbnb and I don't see myself using a hotel ever again. Mindy was extremely responsive and helpful throughout the process, and Dawn was lovely as well.
The space was perfect—exceeding my expectations. It was a very nice size given the location, was clean and tastefully decorated, and everything worked just fine. The location is hands-down my favorite spot in NYC and is central to everything I love about downtown. It's a lively neighborhood with a ton of history and gritty character, surrounded by bars, restaurants, and great public spaces, but just know that it's more rock and roll than, say, the upper west side. You get a real spectrum of experience in this area, and Mindy's place is right in the heart of it.
But because the space is five floors up, it's actually very quiet and peaceful. There is a bar directly below, but I never once heard a peep of noise. You can leave both bedroom windows open and not worry about being kept awake. While I understand that a 5th floor walk-up might be considered a pain, NYC is a walking city anyway. Unless stairs are a real issue, don't let this detract from the experience as even the entry and staircase to this place is quite lovely.
The AC unit is in the living room, which is separate from the bedroom, so I'd imagine it could get a little muggy in there during extreme weather, but the place came with a fan and so redirecting air wouldn't be an issue.
All in all, this was perfect. I visit NYC often, and when I stay in hotels I find that I just don't want to be in the room at all. With Mindy's place, I could go walk for a few hours and then return to flat to chill out for an hour before heading out again. It really made for a different experience altogether.
If you want a space that's central to the more lively aspects of NYC living, is in close proximity to excellent shopping, bars, restaurants, and public spaces, look no further. A fantastic flat with a fantastic host!
The area that this apartment is in is fantastic. So many restaurants, so many bars, so many options. It's also not a tourist hotspot (like Times Square) which is really nice. Such a good location!
It is a bit 'grungy' though, which we weren't worried about at all. Grungy is a word that could be applied to a lot of New York (and I think that's part of it's appeal).
The apartment itself has plenty of space to spread out and get comfortable. Everything was very clean and Mindy even arranged for someone to meet us early morning when we arrived exhausted after our long haul flight from Sydney.
Only things which myself and my partner didn't like about this place:
It is noisy well into the night. But that's the sacrifice you make to stay in a cool area of New York.
The bed wasn't extremely comfortable. But you're in New York so who's sleeping anyway! No, really, the bed didn't affect us too much.
To our knowledge there's no elevator. Being on the fifth floor I wouldn't recommend this place to my elderly relatives who would struggle the climb (especially with luggage in hand).
Overall great place and would go back again.
We had a great 10 days in Mindy's apartment. The location is perfect - 5 mins from multiple subway lines which connect up the whole of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Dawn was very warm upon arrival, and we were allowed to stay past the check-out time as nobody else was staying that night, this was very helpful for us as our flight out wasn't until the late afternoon. We found everything we needed in the apartment, and were wanting for nothing. Thanks again.
Mindy and Dawn were amazingly helpful and timely with responses. This place is near everything and you really get to have a true New York experience. For delicious coffee, go to Abraco (right across the street) and get a Cortado and olive oil cake. We were meeting people for brunch but had our luggage, and we needed to check out. Dawn was kind enough to let us leave our luggage there since there wasn’t anyone checking in that night. We also forgot a set of keys there, and we offered to send a self-addressed stamped envelope, but Dawn offered to send them out that day. They were really flexible with everything and very welcoming. We would definitely stay there again!
Had a really great time at Mindy's flat, central in a really cool neighborhood! Great restaurants nearby, and short distance to public transportation. The apartment was clean, had a minimalistic look, and Mindy were really helpful even though our flight were delayed for several hours. She met us early in the morning to give us the keys.
I recommend this place for couples that are looking for a romantic weekend in The Big Apple!
My wife and I stayed at Mindy's apartment memorial weekend and couldn't have asked for a better spot! We like to shop in Soho and stay in the East Village but unfortunately most of the lodging in the area are expensive boutique hotels. Mindy's place was the perfect mix of location and price. Its a 5th floor walkup that might be an issue for some but for us it was just a way to get some added exercise ;) The entire apartment was clean and uncluttered and although the space is small (hey that's NYC) the one bedroom made it feel larger. We didn't use the kitchen but it is supplied with everything you need to cook meals. All in all we had a great experience and would recommend this spot to anyone!
Mindy's listing was excellent and she was very timely in her responses about the listing.
The Apartment was very clean, the bed was comfortable and the neighbors were quiet. We had a great time and really enjoyed the East Village area. There were many great places to eat, drink, listen to live music and relax and just catch the feel of the area.
It was an authentic New York Stay and we would chose this space again on our next visit! Thanks Mindy, for a fun and stress-free experience!
We spent there really great time, location is the best - so many restaurants and not many tourists :) communication with Mindy is really fast...easy acces to other parts of the city.. :)
We spend the last 10 days in Mindy's place and it was wonderful. The location is perfect with lots of nice restaurants nearby. All the other parts of NYC are easy to reach. The bed is also comfortable.
We would definitely recommend it or book it ourselves again!
Mindy was a very nice lady and I'm glad there was an Air France strike thanks to which i was rescheduled few hours after and we met ! Otherwise only my friend Patrick would have taken care of them alone...I hope we'll have a longer conversation next time watching the highlights of Paris with some exquisite cider...
Mindy is a great guest, communicates well, respond very quickly to emails and really pleasant. Everything went well, I highly recommend her to any airbnb host.
Mindy was a pleasure to host at our wine country house. The house was left in absolutely perfect condition, and all check out procedures were followed to a 'T'. I would happily recommend her to any future Airbnb hosts! Thanks Mindy!
