I'd like to start of by saying, that I have stayed at multiple airbnbs throughout the past couple of years, and this is the first one I would not stay again.
The place was dirtier than expected, especially the bathroom. There was hair from previous guests in the bathtub, as well as imbedded in towel and washcloth provided. I did not contact my host about, i simply used thee the cleaning supplies I found and took care of the tub; and used the cleanest of the towels I could find, and my beach towel.
The unit is smoke free, which I appreciate, but that was as long as you kept the windows closed. Residents/guest in the building smoke wherever in the building and it obviously rises.
My biggest concern I have, and the main reason, I would not stay here again is the building. People have commented that it is a bit dated and rundown, but what was never mentioned in previous reviews is the safety of the building. Some of the residents and other guests of the building, are a bit unsavory. The elevator closest to unit is shut down through the night, which I can only assume is because of possible negative activities. Some, of what I experienced as far as the safety of building may be based on biases from my work in low income housing, but nonetheless I should feel safe where I am staying, and I did not.
In conclusion, look elsewhere. The few dollars you save with his listing are not worth it.
The location of Stephanie's condo was perfect for our needs; we used it as a home base to go to the volcano national park as well as to drive up the Hamakua Coast and to Mauna Kea. It was also perfectly located with regards to food and access to downtown Hilo. It's also very close to the airport. The condo itself was very well-kept, although the building seemed fairly old. There is a nice collection of VCRs and DVDs, and both the air mattress and bed were very comfortable. The kitchen is also very well-stocked, although we did not use it. Stephanie also promptly answered any questions that we had about the property and made us feel very at home. Overall, I would definitely recommend Stephanie's condo for a vacation in Hilo.
Stayed at Stephanie's for 5 nights with a friend. It was perfect for us! She was always quick to answer all my concern and questions and was helpful in every way possible.
If you're looking for the place, it's located inside a small hotel labeled "Country Club Condo". It looks like an older building but don't be fooled, it's nicer inside- a lot of Hilo looks like that on the outside. Check in at the front desk as easy and the people there were very nice. Elevators are located in the front near the check in desk and one in the back by the laundry machine.
The overall room was adorable and perfect for me and my friend. If you tried to fit 3, it would be a little tight but for 2, it was perfect. The full size bed was super comfy and Stephanie had many things for us to use. She has a mini-fridge with a small freezer, a toaster oven, a microwave, and a two-burner stove. There are some pots and pans, knives, cooking utensils, plates/bowls/cups, and some simple cooking ingredients like salt, sugar packets, soy sauce. There are some items leftover from Stephanie/previous guests to use too like pasta. Take a look in the cabinets before you go food shopping. She had a medium sized cooler w/icepacks, foldable lawn chairs, towels, beach mats- all perfect for us so we didn't have to bring our own! She even had little bottles of shampoo/conditioner just in case you forgot yours.
She also had a large binder ready for all her guests with info about the island. Places to go, places to eat, things to do etc. We added in some takeout menus that we picked up to the already large stack menus there and our AAA books of Hawai'i as well. She has a TV that has cable and a DVD and VHS player along with some movies to watch.
Overall, the place was great! Well equipped for almost all of your needs. I would definitely come back again!
My mother (who actually stayed there) enjoyed the room. Her and her new husband were comfortable and relaxed. Although I thought for some reason there was a lanai, I still thought the place was perfect for their purpose. Stephanie is very nice and the check in and out was seamless. I really appreciated this having to already coordinate a bunch of other things during their trip.
The host is very helpful. We locked ourselves out of the apartment and she managed to sent help within three hours to unlock. She is on top of things that is for sure.
She has provided an extra cooler for us to use during our stay. It was very nice of her.
Stephanie made my stay very relaxing. Her condo was very clean and comfortable with little extras, small cooler and furnishings, so I didn't have to worry about trying to do it all my self and figure out how to get to get these extras home. I arrived very late, the night guard made my check-in as painless as possible and she was completely aware of my check in arrangements. Thank you Stephanie!
Banyan Dr is a beautiful road along the bay full of green space and serene parks. We really enjoyed the location and the space was perfect for us. There is a little kitchenette if you don't feel like going out and checking in was easy. The staff was friendly and helpful but unobtrusive and we really felt like we had out own little condo, not so much of a resort or hotel feel. We can't thank you enough!
The location was great!! Close to downtown and buses. Lovely banyan trees, parks on both sides and Coconut Island, all made it a great place to walk around. The apartment was clean and the bed was VERY comfortable - though a bit small ( a double instead of a Queen or King). It was fine for us as we are not big people. The outside area is a little run down, but clean and all the people were friendly. I would stay here again.
We ended our tour of the Big Island in Hilo.
We had a very nice time staying at Stephanie´s Ocean Retreat. It is situated in a perfect location, surrounded by beautiful parks, close to the city and to the beaches.
The studio is nicely decorated, we found everything we needed and we cooked most of our meals.
We would happily stay there again.
Stephanie is a wonderful host!! This was my first experience with airbnb, everything went so smoothly!! I never actually met Stephanie, but she was so welcoming! She gave me lots of pointers on places to go and places to eat. She has a binder put together in the apartment with all this information as well! I originally booked for 6 nights, but decided to cut it short by two days and head over to Kona! Stephanie didn't mind at all!
The building is quite dated, and a little sketchy lol, but the residents I did run into at the elevator were all very nice and welcoming! The wifi is useable in the lobby, which was perfectly ok! As it felt like I was sitting on a patio!
Stephanie's apartment as all the necessities to make your own meals at home! And previous guests have left condiments and salad dressings!
A car rental is a must! Stephanie's building does offer free parking, unlike a lot of hotels in the area. Without a car I wouldn't have seen black sand beach! Just 1 hour drive south! Who doesn't want to cruise around an island in a mustang convertible :):)
Overall my experience at Stephanie's was entirely positive!
Stephanie was very tidy, friendly and excellent communication. Always welcome back!
Stephanie was an amazing guest! Clean and Outgoing, Highly recommended to all hosts! Much Mahalo!
