First off, I should start by saying Victor hosted me in his apartment for 6 months and so my review will be from the perspective of someone who has rented the apartment over a long period of time. We had some personal issues regarding the departure of my flatmate but Victor was kind enough to reduce the monthly rent in this time. I was also asked to leave slightly earlier than intended but was given the 30 days noticed required in this situation.
We were warmly welcomed into the flat by Victor's family who showed around and made sure we understood how everything worked/answered any questions we had. The apartment was lovely and spacious, there was room for us both to live comfortably. It is well-situated, only a 15 minute walk from the centre of town and is well serviced by the local transport system.
I found that a few things were perhaps slightly dated but on the whole it functioned well and served it's purpose. However, because we were there for a long period of time we had to find replacements for many things that weren't there/simply wouldn't do. For example: an electric kettle, a modern iron, chopping boards as there was only one little one available and throughout the stay 6 light bulbs needed replacing (I can only assume this is because the flat hadn't been used for a while before our arrival). I have taken most of this stuff on with me to my next apartment, however it'll probably only be a problem for someone intending staying there for a long time.
We were also told upon moving in that Victor was in the process of setting up permanent internet for us during our stay as there was only an SFR hotspot connection when we arrived. Don't get me wrong, this internet functioned well for checking emails and using social media but as soon as you needed to do something complex it wasn't useful at all. Given the flat did not have a (working) tv, the only way we could watch anything (apart from DVDs which we did not have because we both came over to France with a luggage weight limit) was by using Netflix or streaming films/programmes. Evidently with the internet provided this was not very easy. Sadly in general we did not receive immediate email responses from Victor and thus it took about a month of to-ing and fro-ing for us to realise the permanent internet wasn't something we'd be receiving in a hurry. Thus we sadly had to deal with this ourselves. Again, I do believe this would only be a problem for someone who wished to stay over a long period of time. For a short stay the hotspot wifi would probably do the job.
Overall I enjoyed my time in Victor's apartment very much, during my stay it very much became my new home and I'm only sad I couldn't have stayed until the end of my time in France.
The apartment is very nice and well equipped with everything you need. It is in a good and safe neighborhood. The walk to the center of town and the lake is only about 15-20 minutes. There is a grocery, bakery and pharmacy just around the corner from the apartment so it is really convenient. Victor's family was very kind, our train was over an hour late getting to Annecy but they were very patiently waiting and took the time to show us everything in the apartment even though it was late at night when we arrived.
Communication with the host was easy and he was very responsive. We were met by his family and given a full tour of the apt indicating where everything was and worked in detail.
The apt is spacious, clean and has all amenities. The entrance to the building is a little worn but the apt is fine. The kitchen has lots of windows making it very bright. There is abundant storage space. There is a balcony from which you can see the mountains at one end and there are trees which block the view to the other buildings. The included parking was very convenient. Around the block is a small Carrefour food shop that is also convenient.
It is a 15 minute walk to old Annecy which is great. Renting a bicycle and riding around the lake is well worth it, there are great hikes and lots of great food delicacy stores. If you want to treat yourself, The Belvedere one star Michelin star restaurant overlooking old Annecy is well worth it. The food is exquisite and the view breath taking.
We would stay at this location again. Thank you.
Great stay in Annecy, apartment well located within 10 minutes walk of main tourist area. Victor's family were waiting for us on arrival and looked after us well!
