We stayed at Brad and Linda's place whilst we explored The Big Island. We found the farm to be a welcome change from the typical resorts/condos and a wonderful way if surrounding yourself with nature. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to do it.
We actually stayed at the Dolphin cottage which is next door to Whale one. It was an incredibly peaceful and relaxing place. The cabins are located on the farm surrounded by lush tropical plants and coffee along with the mac nut trees. I loved going to bed with the sounds of rain.
Brad was very welcoming, he greeted us even though we came late in the evening and showed us around. He pays a lot of attention to details so it all makes you feel very comfortable. Especially I noticed the small candles in the shower and along handrails, it was so cozy and pleasant. Brad would light them every night and every time we came back the atmosphere was romantic :)
The cottage has everything you need almost like at home. Great coffee and organic fruit for you to enjoy! The shower is outside it's very comfortable and private. I liked the outdoor kitchen a lot. It was very nice to cook breakfast on the fresh air.
Some specific things that we have noticed:
- sometimes the mac nuts would fall from the tall tree on our roof :)
- grab your hairdryer
- if your neighbors are loud you'll hear them easily ( we were lucky to stay with a sweet couple who were respectful and calm :)
There is a decent hike towards the ocean with great views! If you take the road right next to the gates it will lead you all the way down, you'll have to walk uphill on the way back but it's worth it!
My girlfriend and I stayed here for 6 nights Nov 9-15. Brad was very welcoming and had lots of good ideas for things to see and do localy. The bathroom is in a seperate room attached to the bedroom. The bathroom has a nice open feeling which we enjoyed but the shower was impossible to maintain any constant temps. The kitchen area is nice and it is outside with a nice grill and kitchen utensils and dishes. This kitchen is shared with the other cabin that is right next door. This was a bit of a surprise. If your looking for lots of privacy this may not be the place for you, if theres a couple staying next door you can hear them talking and in order for them to get to their bathroom they have to walk right through the shared kitchen area. When you have the area to yourself it's awesome! The cabin was small inside but had a big comfy king sized bed, microwave, coffee maker, fridge and satelite tv. More than enough amenities to be comfy. We really enjoyed the macadamia nuts and kona coffee and fresh fruits right off the farm. Delicious. This place is 45 min away from kona. Overall we really enjoyed staying here, the area is really nice. Mahalo
Richard and Jen,
Brad & Linda had our names on our parking space, & Brad greeted us on the driveway, chatted & led us to the cottage. Our names were on a sign by our door, welcoming us. The room is small, simple, outfitted with a huge bed, a tv, small fridge, French press, fresh fruit & coffee. Nice private bathrm next door, & shared outdoor kitchen down the steps. Beach gear can be borrowed, & we did.
This property abuts hwy. 11, so the neighborhood is just that, more properties abutting the hwy. We learned quickly we must pay close attention to where to turn into South Kona Coffee.
We were welcomed by Brad and Linda with fruit and coffee and a tour of the place. We loved the accomodations. It was almost like being in a tree house. The bed was wonderful and we had everything we needed.
We will definitely be back.
I was made to feel extremely welcome. Complete with the chalk board sign telling me so. I was given the lay of the land and told to help myself to any of the fruit growing around me and to ask about anything I needed. Brad was really kind and helpful and the place itself is absolutely gorgeous! It really is paradise on earth. They have thought of absolutely everything and I couldn't wait to get back there after my day of adventuring to drink in the atmosphere and the view as the sun set. It was magic!
Paradise!! A perfect few days of peace and quiet and pure tranquility. About 45mins from kona, and easy to find. The outdoor kitchen is good and we didn't expect the microwave and toaster in our room so that was a bonus! We had no problems with bugs and geckos, no more than other places we stayed on the big island (we didn't stay in any hotels) and he dogs totally ignored us. Oh almost forgot.... Delicious coffee, banana a and papaya!!!!
