We are a fun loving family of 4 living in Las Cruces, NM. We love to travel and make new friends. You can often find us on our bikes or hiking.
I'd like to start by saying the hosts were outstanding. We had wine and turtles waiting for us. Also because we were going to arrive so late and way past the time they had designated for arrivals, Jeff met us at 1am. So nice of them. They recommended activities and restaurants which proved to be fun and extremely yummy (in that order). Perfect place for a small family or 1 or 2 couples. We did miss having wireless and mentioned this to Ashleigh. It's kind of nice to have a bit of TV and access to email when winding down from the day. But thanks so much to the hosts! Oh and they brought us fresh home made scones for our last morning there! Also yummy!
Ashleigh and Jeff's "Conway House" was a delight to stay in. In addition to being a truly beautiful space and centrally located, it is outfitted with everything I would want to have for an extended stay. Ashleigh has put a tremendous amount of thought into what her guests may need to be comfortable and at home. She even went so far as to lend me a cute little bicycle to get around the neighborhood. It was really enjoyable to scoot around Mesilla (the historic plaza donning many souvenir shops, several wine bars, a indie film theater and a historic adobe church) and all along the orchard lined streets of Las Cruces.
A little bit about what the house feels like:
Beautiful hardwood floors and solid wood furniture create a vibe of rustic authenticity, while the wrap around couch and Kilim rug feel cozy and welcoming. (Be warned, you may accidentally fall asleep on the couch instead of in the bedrooms! :) Western and Southern orientated windows drench the main room in light throughout the entire day. There is a lovely glass and brick sitting room in the front of the house, which is full of plants and candles and a tea table. I ate most every meal out in that sunny space, watching the neighborhood wake up in the mornings and the gold sunset light stretch down the street at the end of the day. (Even in January, Las Cruces has very dependable sunsets and pink "alpin glow" on the Organ mountains.)
Though I stayed there as a single person, I can imagine the house would be perfect for a couple because it is very romantic. It would also work for a family, because there are two bedrooms and a back room with a futon. I simply used the second bedroom as an office, which was very convenient to have access to.
Lastly, I'll say a few words about your host. Ashleigh is the friendliest person you can imagine, and I can tell you she won't feel like a stranger to you for very long. Maybe a minute at most. She had a wonderfully natural sense for greeting and welcoming me, and helping initiate me to the Las Cruces area, including it's social and music scene. She and her family live just down the street and she was willing to pop over when I had questions or concerns. They recommended events to attend and delicious restaurants. I truly appreciated her hospitality and felt compelled to give her the highest possible recommendation to anyone considering renting her space. I can't imagine staying in a hotel after having such a genuine human exchange, and I know for a fact I will be returning.
We couldn't say more great things about the experiece we had with this wonderful family! Our cottage was left in perfect condition and we only wish Ashleigh and her family could have stayed longer. Many thanks!
