I grew up in Tennessee, went to college in Connecticut, and have lived in San Francisco since 1987. I am a lawyer by day and a musician by night. I love to sing, cook, read, travel, and play host.
John was a very gracious host and wonderful to share travel conversations during our brief stay with him. The location of the house is near the Castro and very easy to get to. The room was very peaceful, relaxing and has one helluva of a shower.
We will desperate to cook a meal and shared our creations with John and friends. I do hope to stay again the next time I come to SF.
My wife and I booked a two night stay at John's place for the San Francisco-leg of our California vacation. We have nothing but positive things to say about the room and about John, who is a wonderful host and person. The room is charming, clean, and beautifully adorned. And the bed... well, the bed is almost supernaturally comfy. Our only regrets are that we couldn't stay longer, and that we didn't have more opportunities to chat with John (we were busy touring the city most of the time). We would absolutely love to stay here again the next time we are in San Francisco.
Response from John:
Thanks for the info - I will check out the iron and replace it if it doesn't work properly. So glad you enjoyed your stay.
This was the perfect place for my BF and I. The location is prime and very close to the Castro (walking distance) and close to public transit etc. The neighborhood was extremely quiet and safe and we had no problems parking our car. The room had everything you would expect from a 5 star hotel: toiletries, snacks, and even an iPhone charger (which was great since we left ours at home). John completely opened his home to us and allowed us to come and go as we pleased
John's house was perfact for me and my husband. The house is very comfortable and have everything all we needed.
It was hard to communicate with him because of our poor speaking english skill, but he and his friend took care of really everything. I'm sorry about that we can not have time to talk with john.
Thank you John and John's friend for everything.
Staying in John's house was awesome. His house is beautiful and the area is quiet and really nice. John is a great host and takes care of really everything. He's always happy to help and to give adivce... and his Scones are sooooo good.
The room is fabulous. It is huge and has a great en suite bathroom.
I absolutely enjoyed staying at John's and would absolutely recommend him and his place.
Thank you John for everything!!
Staying with John at his place was a great experience. The bedroom is perfect, with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on, the private bad room and closet perfectly clean and with all we needed. Photos of the house are as it really is beautiful classic style!
John is the perfect host, we have a home-made breakfast in the morning, good conversation and much more help than we expected.
Castro is a beautiful neighborhood, worthy to walk and see; the public transportation will let you in Finance District Chinatown Embarcadero Fisherman’s wharf…very easily. Don’t doubt it, fully recommendable.
Ficar na casa do John foi como ficar na casa de amigos queridos. Super recomendado!!
John's place was great! He was very welcoming and finding his place was easy. We especially appreciated him being welcome to our 6-month-old staying with us. His quiet neighborhood is an easy walk to myraid choices of restaurants and close to public transit. The room is beautiful and John made us feel right at home!
Great location in the Castro district ,near many bars and restaurants.
Cosy house with lots of character.
Easy to access the public transport system.
Would stay again
The host was extremely hospitable and very courteous. We were mainly out enjoying the city throughout at the day then came home to get ready for the evening's events so we really were only there to sleep. He made fresh baked scone one morning and they were delicious! We will definitely keep John in mind for our next visit to San Francisco. The room was also extremely clean and tidy.
John & Rob were just delightful guests; also airbnb hosts. They were personable, considerate and appreciative. They left the cottage in stellar condition and we look forward to a return visit!
I had the pleasure of staying with John as a house guest a while ago and had a fantastic time. The room is light, beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable. It has tons of storage space and, with the comfort of its very own bathroom, you can have your own privacy but still enjoy the rest of John's lovely home.
The house is beautiful, spacious and well-positioned in relation to local transportation. It's perfect for easy access to all San Francisco has to offer while still enjoying the peace and tranquillity of a quaint residential area.
John is a fun and welcoming host. He made us feel right at home and had plenty of advice for things we could do in the neighborhood and the wider Bay Area. The neighborhood itself is a close to idyllic as you can get, in my opinion, so I would warmly recommend staying with John if you want to have an unforgettable time in San Francisco.
John and I have been friends for nearly 20 years, and were housemates for a very happy period. You will never find a better host! His innate southern hospitality comes from a very genuine regard for his fellow humans. He's warm and welcoming and fills his home with beautiful things and interesting people. An avid traveler, he's always off to exotic locales.
This room is very comfortable and spacious. The neighborhood is perfect - quiet and peaceful but a 5 minute walk to the beating heart of the Castro. It's the easiest place to park a car that I ever lived in San Francisco, but also has easy public transport options. One of my favorite things to do on sunshiny days is to walk from John's place up to the top of Twin Peaks for panoramic views of the City and the Bay. If you're lucky enough to stay at John's and get a bright day, don't miss it!
John and I have been friends for over 20 years. He's a talented baker, gifted musician and singer, and wonderful friend. His house in the heart of SF's Castro is a warm, inviting spot where any guest will have plenty of privacy and maybe scones at breakfast!
Let's see, I've had the pleasure of calling John my friend for 8 years now... I have been to his cute house in the Castro numerous times for rehearsals and dinner parties. John defines Southern Hospitality and I envy anyone who gets to rent the wonderful guest suite he has available. If I were in need of a place to stay I would rent from John in a heartbeat!
I've known John for over 10 years. He's well educated, personable, talented, and fun. A great guy all around; one couldn't ask for a better host. The house itself is clean, well furnished, comfortable, and located within walking distance of the Castro and public transportation in case you want to venture to other parts of the city. I recommend John and his accommodations without hesitation. If I didn't already have my own house, I'd move in with him myself!
John is a great host, who always makes me feel welcome in his house and knows how to make new people confortable around him. He has a very nice place with privacy for his guests.
John Kelley is a responsible and talented friend, who lives in a handsomely appointed house in the upper Castro in San Francisco. I know John from school, music and club associations. His charming home is a delightful mix of styles in a comfortable setting at the end of a quiet street. Among John's many talents are extraordinary skills in the kitchen, especially baking. Anyone who is fortunate enough to live with John is in for a treat.
I've been lucky enough to garner an invite or two for events John has hosted at his lovely home in the Castro. A fantastic host and better friend, John makes it his job to make guests feel at home for the duration of their stay. Have met John initially at an alumni event, we found a quick foundation for our friendship, and even had opportunity to travel away with him and camp with friends in the redwoods of Sonoma County, where I saw first hand the hospitality of John as a host for overnight ventures. What a treat!
