I grew up in Tennessee, went to college in Connecticut, and have lived in San Francisco since 1987. I am a lawyer by day and a musician by night. I love to sing, cook, read, travel, and play host.

John was a fantastic host, very welcoming, personable and thoughtful. From being flexible in our arrival time, to baking fresh scones in the morning, to having public transport cards available for us to use, it made our stay that much better and easier. John's house is charming and full of personality on a quiet street an easy walk from the Castro and transport. I would definitely recommend staying with John.
Neil and I greatly enjoyed staying at John's lovely home in San Francisco. His hospitality was exceptional- good communication prior to booking and very welcoming once we were there. He gave us clipper cards to use for the transport system and even a cell phone for local calls, as well as cooking us tasty banana bread and driving us to the station when we were running late.
The house is lovely, the bedroom and en suite bathroom clean and spacious with good storage space. All in all, a great experience and one we heartily recommend to others.
John was incredibly warm and welcoming. We loved calling the space home for the weekend. Perfectly tidy and clean- a cozy place to rest and in walking distance to many major SF attractions. Great host!
John was the perfect host for the 5 weeks that I stayed there. The room was great, even better than the pictures. John opened his home to me and it became my home whilst I stayed there. I would recommend that you stay here if you want a peaceful place that's only 5 minutes away from the action. Perfect!
Beautiful place in Castro, away from the hustle and bustle of the main drag, but close enough that it doesn't feel isolated. It's pretty quiet but for garbage trucks and wind chimes. Lots of space, plenty of light: beautiful guest room. Amazing bed with a mattress heater. I don't remember sleeping that well in a long time! Well-appointed kitchen, great coffee. It was wonderful to wake up to a freshly made pot. John is a wonderful host who wants his guests to feel at home.
Transportation is pretty decent, too: there's a bus nearby that goes to 16th St BART station, and also directly to Haight Ashbury district; nearby metro station will take you to downtown and more touristy places. Walking down 18th Street will take you to some great restaurants and grocery stores. I'd stay here again if I return to San Fran.
We had no problem getting in even though John wasn't in town. He gave us detailed directions so it was easy to get in. We shared the house with other couples and they were all nice and respectful. His house was exactly as pictured and everything was clean and organized. We had a nice terrace with a view we enjoyed. He also provided simple breakfast for us to make (Eggs, bread, muffins, etc.) We felt safe coming back home from Castro Station even at late night. It's a bit uphill but a good exercise and nice to walk. This was my first Airbnb experience in the States and I highly recommend it!
The house and room is exactly what is described. John, was a great host and I had a wonderful experience.
Gäbe es eine Wahl "best host of the year", hätte John alle unsere Stimmen!
Perfect location and the perfect host. Parking was a bonus as we had driven up from Monterey.
Lovely clean rooms with all of the items you could possibly need on a short or long stay. Highly recommended.
John is a generous host; he offered so much beyond a beautiful bedroom and private bath. He offered to pick us up from the Bart station at night and fed us breakfast. He opened up his beautiful home to enjoy and it was so comfortable and full of interest. The house is in a great location for those who like to walk and hike ( and I do and did!)
John is very courteous and thoughtful, I felt totally at ease in handing over the keys to him ,my experience was wonderful looking forward to hosting again, Edward Williams.
John & Rob were just delightful guests; also airbnb hosts. They were personable, considerate and appreciative. They left the cottage in stellar condition and we look forward to a return visit!
I had the pleasure of staying with John as a house guest a while ago and had a fantastic time. The room is light, beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable. It has tons of storage space and, with the comfort of its very own bathroom, you can have your own privacy but still enjoy the rest of John's lovely home.
The house is beautiful, spacious and well-positioned in relation to local transportation. It's perfect for easy access to all San Francisco has to offer while still enjoying the peace and tranquillity of a quaint residential area.
John is a fun and welcoming host. He made us feel right at home and had plenty of advice for things we could do in the neighborhood and the wider Bay Area. The neighborhood itself is a close to idyllic as you can get, in my opinion, so I would warmly recommend staying with John if you want to have an unforgettable time in San Francisco.
John and I have been friends for nearly 20 years, and were housemates for a very happy period. You will never find a better host! His innate southern hospitality comes from a very genuine regard for his fellow humans. He's warm and welcoming and fills his home with beautiful things and interesting people. An avid traveler, he's always off to exotic locales.
This room is very comfortable and spacious. The neighborhood is perfect - quiet and peaceful but a 5 minute walk to the beating heart of the Castro. It's the easiest place to park a car that I ever lived in San Francisco, but also has easy public transport options. One of my favorite things to do on sunshiny days is to walk from John's place up to the top of Twin Peaks for panoramic views of the City and the Bay. If you're lucky enough to stay at John's and get a bright day, don't miss it!
John and I have been friends for over 20 years. He's a talented baker, gifted musician and singer, and wonderful friend. His house in the heart of SF's Castro is a warm, inviting spot where any guest will have plenty of privacy and maybe scones at breakfast!
Let's see, I've had the pleasure of calling John my friend for 8 years now... I have been to his cute house in the Castro numerous times for rehearsals and dinner parties. John defines Southern Hospitality and I envy anyone who gets to rent the wonderful guest suite he has available. If I were in need of a place to stay I would rent from John in a heartbeat!
I've known John for over 10 years. He's well educated, personable, talented, and fun. A great guy all around; one couldn't ask for a better host. The house itself is clean, well furnished, comfortable, and located within walking distance of the Castro and public transportation in case you want to venture to other parts of the city. I recommend John and his accommodations without hesitation. If I didn't already have my own house, I'd move in with him myself!
John is a great host, who always makes me feel welcome in his house and knows how to make new people confortable around him. He has a very nice place with privacy for his guests.
John Kelley is a responsible and talented friend, who lives in a handsomely appointed house in the upper Castro in San Francisco. I know John from school, music and club associations. His charming home is a delightful mix of styles in a comfortable setting at the end of a quiet street. Among John's many talents are extraordinary skills in the kitchen, especially baking. Anyone who is fortunate enough to live with John is in for a treat.
I've been lucky enough to garner an invite or two for events John has hosted at his lovely home in the Castro. A fantastic host and better friend, John makes it his job to make guests feel at home for the duration of their stay. Have met John initially at an alumni event, we found a quick foundation for our friendship, and even had opportunity to travel away with him and camp with friends in the redwoods of Sonoma County, where I saw first hand the hospitality of John as a host for overnight ventures. What a treat!
