The apartment is lovely, more amenities than expected. I went with my family and stayed overnight, I wish I've could stayed longer. The apartment is comfortable and the extra sofa/bed is was just what I need it. The view, the sea breeze, the peace. If you have any concern about the place, the owner or property manager will get back to you, great and fast response. Thank you!
We had a wonderful time. My partner and I are a bit different, but the same, because we both go with our gut and trust each other. We are well seasoned international travelers and Tom doesn't post a lot of pictures of his place; however, there was something about it that felt right. Tom's place was right for us! Tom is extremely gracious and accommodating. Kevin, the location property manager, is wonderful and even the security and grounds keepers have the aloha spirit. The balcony is my favorite spot in Tom's place. It is large and I setup my hammock to watch the most beautiful sunsets kiss the ocean goodnight and we had almost every breakfast and dinner on the nice high top table. Bring candles because there's no light on the balcony (which is good because in Hawaii light only attracts flying things). I suggest citronella candels because they will keep the misquotes away. Molokai is extremely laid back but if you need to and/or can work remote Tom's place is 1st class! The internet is faster at Tom's then in Tokyo and if you bring the right cables you can mirror your laptop to his huge HD TV. There is so much more to say and I had the best adventure in a long time. Interestingly, I have traveled and lived/worked all over the world for different professionals and out of all the places I have been I had the best time in my own homeland. I meet many like minded native Hawaiians who are friends of my family and if you want to go to Halawa and listen to live Hawaiian jams contact Uncle Eddie Tanaka (website hidden) /FB mysticalmolokai
#1 advice take care of Tom's home as you would your own. The reward is in doing right and right comes back.
#2 be prepared for quite and breath it in
#3 need a Western fix Tom's home is modern... sit back and stream Netflix. You'll be amazed how clear big and clear his screen is. It is like you are at the movies.
4# sunscreen sunscreen and more sunscreen
5# keep cooling gel for sunburn in the fridge. It will be much more effective.
6# burt bees bug spray
7# be prepared not to get good phone reception but that's ok if you are prepared and heed advice line #2
8# shop early (in town) and if you are there on Saturday there's a framers' market in town it starts about 9am, it is across from the library. There is a shop at Tom's open till 5 and if you do need something and don't want to go to town you can ask the owner and if he can bring it in he will. He's very nice. But, there's shops and post office 10mins away in Maunaloa town open till 6pm.
Again I cannot express my mahalo to all. Especially, Tom for opening his home to us. Thanks for being so awesome! We'll be back.
Great for a weekend getaway. Great view from the lanai. Located on secluded west side so a little out of the way if you want to be closer to town but great if you're looking for space and relaxation. Condo had kitchenware which was nice for making food at home instead of eating out. Condo has very little sound proofing and voices carry very far, so if you have a few people who are all talking you basically have to whisper to not disturb the neighbors who are mostly over 65 and tuck in early.
This is a great option for accommodation on Molokai. Not only did we have amazing access to west-end beaches (and stunning sunsets!), but we also felt right at home. The condo is comfortable, clean and well set up. Everything we needed was there.
It was a perfect home base for our week of exploring Molokai!
Tom had a really fast response to the reservation request. The condo is exactly as described and placed nicely by parking so carrying bags is no problem at all. I stayed there by myself and felt very safe. His property manager went above and beyond to help me out which I really appreciated!! If you prefer the west end (more brushy and arid) over the east end (lush and rainforest like) this is definitely a good spot to rent. The beach there is nice to watch the sunset but you don't have a direct view because of the little outcropping to the left of the property. Good beach park five minutes away (Papohaku Beach) which was not crowded at all that gave a lovely sunset experience. ABSOLUTELY stop in town first for provisions as it will be a long drive back if you forget. The little general store on the property should only be considered for cold drinks and such. A must have on the island is Dave's Hawaiian Ice Cream which is in a class of its own. I judge most of my travel destinations by their ice cream and this one was AMAZING!!!
1. Rent your car well in advance. . . in fact before you book a location!!!
2. Do the Mule Ride or hike down into Kalaupapa Valley and take the tour. Both the hike and tour were amazing and the whale watching was thrown in for free!!
3. Make time to go to Halawa Valley and book a trail guide in advance. I did not and now need to go back to Molokai to experience that hike. . .oh darn!!!
4. Make sure you clearly understand the directions to get to this location before you come. My iPhone Maps threw me off a bit and had me go a few miles past it before I realized by error. But everyone within the complex was super helpful and one couple even offered their couch if I could not find my place!!
Very nice condo, exactly as advertised and photographed, except more spacious than looks in pictures. Directions to locate exact condo were vague, but the security guard was more than helpful. There were no extra sheets, pillows and towels despite advertising the 2 sleeping sofas on first level. Nice to have washer and dryer. Nice to be able to rent condo for just one night, many in same area have 2 night minimum. Very nice view from lanai, end unit is a plus.
Clean, quiet and peaceful place with stunning views over the ocean and the sunset. The unit has two floors, lots of space and a well equipped kitchen and plenty of towels etc.
We stayed here for one night, before a paddle race back to Ohau. We brought food as it's not much around. There is only a tiny mini market within the complex.
I'd suggest to rent a car if you'll stay for longer.
Really nice view of the sunset from the balcony. Generally a very quiet and peaceful place on the planet. I even noticed a car parked with windows open and doors unlocked. For this reason I found it confusing why I wasn't given the access code more easily. It should have been provided as soon as I paid. Also, there is not always phone coverage so you need everything ready before you get there. It took while before I got it. None-the-less its a beautiful spot and very chilled out.
