We had a fantastic stay in Troy's house! The garden is a piece of paradise with numerous plants and animals we had never seen before. The house itself is tastefully furnished and perfectly equipped with everything that we needed. We enjoyed having breakfast and dinner on the big veranda, or relaxing in the hammock upstairs watching the sloth hanging in the tree next to the house. Only thing to mention is the next beach, Playa Negro. It was not very tempting to swim there with strong currents and not as nice as we expected it to be. We then moved to other beaches along the coast such as the beaches of the national park or Playa Punta Uva (highly recommended!).
Thank's for having us!
Troy is a gracious and incredibly helpful host! We had a fantastic stay at his home and wanted for nothing. Troy stayed up to meet me and went above and beyond to make this a relaxing trip.
The beds were great, the house was breezy and there was excellent coffee in the kitchen.
There are 2 restaurant bars at the end of the street and walking or bicycling distance to the center of town, shops, restaurants, beaches and national park.
Troy met us on our arrival and showed us the house explaining everything very clearly! He was extremely helpful answering our questions about the area and had good suggestions for things for us to do. The property was as described online, including the resident sloth. Would highly recommend this property.
Troy is an excellent host, and his property is absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed all of the flowers that were in bloom, and watching the wildlife. I would highly recommend this property.
When we arrived we were met at the house by Troy, who gave us a very excellent briefing of the house and surrounding area, as well as local sights and tours. We loved staying here. The beds are comfortable, it's very quiet, and great vacation sleeping. The kitchen is adequately set up so you can cook all your meals there. Nice shower (I really liked the tile). We were very pleasantlhy surprised to find the area so bug-free. We never used any of the bug repellent that we brought with us. The property is beautifully landscaped and the views from either the downstairs patio or upstairs deck are oh-so-tropical. His yard teems with wildlife. There are several field guides there showing birds, mammals and reptiles, and we spent many hours identifying the critters we saw. Bruno the sloth is wonderfully photogenic and he actually moved to a couple of locations where we could get excellent pictures and videos. Agoutis are highly entertaining and love to eat your leftover fruit. In the area there are several wildlife rescue places that are worth visitng, and a visit to the Chocolate Museum (between Cahuita and Puerto Viejo) is an unforgettable experience (we got to make our own chocolate!) Both Cahuita and Puerto Viejo are cool little bohemian-flavored towns, and we felt perfectly safe visiting both of them. They both have a variety of restaurants, so if you don't feel like cooking you can always find a pizza somewhere.
