A quiet and very central space as advertised. I enjoyed staying in this part of town.
Lucy always made me feel welcome and provided a comfortable living space.
The room was small but comfortable, suited for a short stay. I would stay here again.
You're welcome again, any time. Thanks & Happy New Year 2015!
This "little submarine" is the best place it you need to land right in the middle of all good Hackney without hassle. If a bit of narrowness is the synonym for you of feeling like home, then this will be your place. All appliances and commodities worked like a charm and Lucy was a perfect host from minute one.
Coming to London to study here for a year, I spent my first two weeks of "flat-hunting" at Lucy's "Washhouse" which is the nickname of the small house that used to be just that: a Washhouse of a boarding school. I slept in the small mezzanine above the kitchen which was a very cozy and comfortable little space. Lucy did everything she could to make me feel welcome which helped me a lot to settle into busy London. Returning in the evening always felt like coming home, a nice feeling in a completely new city. The washhouse felt more like a house-share than a hotel or hostel, bear that in mind when you want to make a booking. I had quite a few interesting chats with Lucy as well as with Dan, who was the tenant of one of the rooms in the house at that time. It's a small house, so naturally you meet in the kitchen or the living space. I highly recommend the Washhouse to anyone who is looking for a place with great character and identity in a perfect location at the center of Hackney with a great host. Thanks Lucy!
Thanks Lucy for a nice stay. To those reading, this is a lovely location to stay. The house is small and can feel busy with two people in it, but its warm and friendly and a great spot for a short stay. Very nice.
Lucy is a very good person and staying in her house was really nice. The place is also very well located, with the overground at 2 minutes walk and buses from different lines available at short distances.
Even though all this practical connections are available, fortunately the place is quiet and peaceful as the house is settled in a path. The surroundings of the neighbourhood are also beautiful (London's Park and Broadway Market are at a 7 min walk) and the area is safe.
I wouldn't hesitate on staying there again on another occasion. I highly recommend Lucy's place.
Thanks Lucy for your hospitality and kindness.
Staying at Lucy’s place entailed a lot of confusion, frustration and disappointment.
When I arrived, the house was in a shambles. Lucy was in the middle of cleaning it.
The room was very small. I didn’t have enough space to unpack or even leave my suitcase in the room to use it as storage space. I had to put it under the living room table as there was nowhere else to store it.
Lucy changed the conditions we had agreed upon without informing me :
I was supposed to stay for a least 3 months. I found out on the day I arrived that she may rent her room to someone else instead, or ask me to leave after one month. She hadn't made her mind. Whatever suited her needs, regardless of the consequences for her guest.
Lucy was unclear about the monthly rent, which kept changing, before and after the initial 3-day booking (I didn’t want to commit long-term without seeing the place. So I visited it right after booking and confirmed my wish to extend my booking).
I found out on the day I arrived that Lucy lived in the house. It is suitable for 2 persons. It is impossible to have a third person living there. She complained about it herself ! During my stay, the other tenant, who had been living there for a year, decided to give Lucy her notice and leave the house as she couldn’t cope anymore with Lucy’s unsettling and disrespecful behaviour.
Lucy was very much focused on money issues :
The first words of greetings I received were about a pack of 24 toilet rolls she had bought at a discounted price. She made it clear that she expected me to pay one third of it.
I was asked for a deposit but was never told precisely how much.
She would turn the thermostat off before going out whereas I was in the house. I was not allowed to turn it up to a temperature that would have kept me warm as she usually put it to a minimum or simply turned it off.
She offered me to use her cereal, left-over crumbs at the bottom of the pack actually, informing me that it had been there for 6 months and may be off. I was also offered to use the 10 grammes or so of butter that was left in the package, mixed with bread crumbs, probably rancid as it had also been in the fridge for 6 months.
It was good and quick until I booked. Then, she didn’t reply to any of my emails/texts until March 30th at 11 pm, that is to say a few hours before I checked in, which was also stressful.
I left Lucy’s house after a few days, as the whole situation was very stressful and unclear. I was left with a very short time to find another place to stay.
I would definitely NOT recommend Lucy's place to other guests.
I contacted Lucy and asked to stay for 3 months while doing an internship in the area. She made me feel completely at home from the very first moment! Absolutely wonderful staying here. She was very helpful in so many different ways and even allowed me to use her bike the entire 3 months to get from and to work! The place was great as well, and room fantastic. The neighbourhood is unbelievable as well, with London fields just around the corner, tons of different markets a walk away and shops as well. Ithink I got really lucky finding this place and so did all my coworkers. Two thumbs up for the wash house and Lucy as a host!!
A really great host! It was a nice staying in her beautiful house and although I was very often elsewhere I very much enjoyed the few conversations we had!
It was lovely staying in Hackney with Lucy and Jo. The house was like a little cosy cottage, warm and compact. Lucy and Jo are friendly but also have their own thing to do, which meant I didn't feel obliged to socialise. However, there was always tea and biscuits available!
I was in London for work and my little room had a cute desk and high up bed, with room to hang my clothes and work in peace.
The flat was in a great area for going out at the weekend, with Broadway Market just a stonethrow away. Really close to the Overground and busses to everywhere.
The bathtub was great, the shower not so wonderful, but it did the job. A little hectic with the bathroom in the morning... with everyone in a rush to get out, but overall a wonderful stay! I'll stay with Lucy again. Thankyou!
I enjoyed my stay with in Lucy´s very much.
She was very friendly, helpful, welcoming, caring.
Dear Lucy, thank you very much for all your help and care.
