San Francisco, CA.... Oh (email hidden)!
uring our time we were really disappointed with the conditions of the apartment. For $250 a night (hotel prices) we expected more. We were a group of 5 in town for the outside lands festival. As far as the location, we were only a few blocks from golden gate park which was wonderful for before/after the festival. But that was about the only thing good about the rental.
We were a group of 5 the apartment says its sleeps 6 yet there were not nearly enough blankets or pillows for all of us. The futon in the back was extremely rigid and uncomfortable, not to mention covered with dog hair. There was only one blanket for the couches in the living room, also covered in dog hair. All the rugs and couches were caked in dog hair. So much so that my friend who is only mildly allergic to dogs was so sick she constantly had to use her inhaler.
Half the chairs in the dining room were broken and or covered in dust. We arrived in the apartment to a full dishwasher and sink with dirty dishes. And the worst part was the awful awful stretch from the deep fryer on the counter that was still filled with left over grease.
If you're willing to pay a lot for location and are happy dealing with anything then this is your place. But for the price including a cleaning fee, I thought the condition of the apartment was really unfair to put up with for 4 days.
There were pros and cons to this stay, so it just depends what is important to you in your accommodations! The hosts were very friendly and flexible, which contributed to a great experience. They met me with the key a day early and were very generous and flexible with check-in/check-out times. They were also very communicative and available to us by phone when we arrived and had a few questions about the accommodations. The location was great for us since we were in town to attend the Outside Lands festival--it was just an easy walk into Golden Gate Park, which was especially nice at the end of the night when folks were having a hard time getting buses and cabs back into the city!! There were a few cafes, markets and restaurants nearby too. The living room had three couches, which was great since there was plenty of seating for our group to hang out in the evenings and spend time together catching up. THere is also a big dining room table that would have been great for meals if we had done any cooking there. Our group did have one major complaint about the cleanliness though. Things were not messy or untidy, but since a dog lives in the home (which was included in the ad for the place) there was a strong smell of dog and a lot of dog hair around the apartment. Although none of our folks are allergic to dogs (and two own a dog), a few of us did have some allergies acting up. I did contact the host after our stay to ask about possibly waiving the cleaning fee of $100 since the apartment was not up to our cleanliness standards. The host politely responded that they do in fact hire a cleaning service and said the cleaners had been there the day we arrived, so they were not open to refunding that portion of the payment. Another issue was inadequate bedding for the three beds. The beds only had fitted sheets and a blanket/comforter--no top sheet. One of the beds did not have pillows, so we had to use some from the couch. The sleeping arrangements are one bed, one futon and a pull-out couch. A plus for these accommodations is that each bed/sleeping arrangement can be closed off with a door for privacy. THe downside is that only the bed was comfortable, so we ended up rotating around each night to make sure everyone got a good night's rest in the bed. Lastly, the host also requested that we bring our own towels, which was somewhat of an inconvenience since we were traveling with limited luggage space.
