Great place and location, near to the mermaid lagoon! Super laid back atmosphere. Jeannie is a nice woman, offering interesting conversation and great local tips.
Having Jeannie as a host was downright awesome! She was extremely knowledgeable about the island, and she helped us create a daily itinerary of must-sees and local food. Her house was very spacious and welcoming. The room was as described and she had towels for us to use (which was useful since we forgot to pack those!). The wildlife around Jeannie's home was really great. The little geckos add to the homeliness of the house. (They also pose for photos)
You absolutely have to meet Jeannie! Her warm welcome made us feel at home. Her place is amazing and will exceed your expectations based on the description and pictures. It is comfortable and colorful! It is the place to be if you want to go snorkeling and relax.
We had a great 3 nights stay there.
Jeannie is a great host, takes care of us and we had fascinating discussions. The room and shared bathroom and kitchen are in accordance with the description and it's a very beautiful all in wood house.
Jeannie is a very special host. We had a great time during our stay at her house. The room is big, confy, clean and very homy. You shouldn't be afraid of bugs cause there are plenty. In the evening the balcony is lovely lightet. Make sure to rent a car, you'll need it. Jeannie is a very welcoming and open person. We would definitely spent another night there again. Perfect. Remote, but quiet. Worth the drive from town. Clean, comfortable. As advertised. Host very kind and friendly, helpful. We'll return!
Jeannie was such an amazing host! She made our trip to the Big Island even better than we had anticipated. My boyfriend and I stayed 7 nights in her beautifully home. Wish we could have stayed longer. Location is south east of the island in a partially remote area but totally accessible by car. If you want to relax, enjoy Hawaii's lush tropical forests, relax on the deck and list to the sound of frogs in the night and swim in a lagoon filled with an array of colourful fish then Jeannie's is the place to be. Very hospitable host. She served us papaya banana boats every morning and was such a joy to talk to. The room we stayed in was a very spacious dark wood antique style room. Definitely worth booking!
Lots to do in that area: Lagoon, tide pools, hot springs, Volcano National Park, Uncle Robert's Awa Bar and Farmers Market(a must), Lava tree state park and much more.
Jeannie was a fantastic host. She was always there to answer questions and make you feel at home. I had lovely conversations with Jeannie during my stay and she even gave me a little bit of a tour around the area. The room itself was so comfortable and I had the best night sleep there thanks to the location and the sounds of the night. I will definitely be back someday and will highly recommend this place to others.
Jeannie is like the earthy auntie you dream of escaping "real life" to go visit. Her house rules are clear and listed, which made them so easy to follow! She had lots of snorkel gear to borrow and a wonderful hand-drawn map to help even a novice snorkeler see underwater creatures. She made papaya boat breakfast for us both mornings and it was fun discussing current events with her over coffee.
Jeannie was very welcoming and gave us some nice hints for spots to visit nearby. =) We also got a delicious papaya and banana breakfast on our first day from her.
In the house we got a nice room with a comfortable bed, but since you're living together with Jeannie and other visitors, privacy is limited to your own room. And you shouldn't be afraid of insects and geckos. ;-)
The surroundings of the house in Kapoho are very calm and beautiful, it's a must-do to go snorkeling in the Lagoon, it was an amazing experience. :D Jeannie also has a nice hand-drawn map in the living room that shows the area of Kapoho and the tide pools very well.
The nearest town of Pahoa is 20 min away by car, the airport of Hilo 1 hour, the Volcano National Park also 1 hour and the other side of the island around 3 hours, depending on conditions of course.
All in all we enjoyed our stay very much!
