This comfortably appointed cottage is the perfect home base for exploring the eastern Sierras, Mono Lake, and other other awe-inspiring landscapes along Highway 395. It's close enough to Bishop's downtown that it's easy to get to the grocery store, the helpful folks at the White Mountain Ranger Station (798 North Main Street), or the fabulous bakery, but it's far enough out to feel very non-urban. Of course the chickens and pig help too!
Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't entirely clear from the photos and description if this was a separate house. It is, with a kitchen, living/dining room, bathroom, and bedroom. It's a wonderful place to stay.
Gloria's a very friendly and welcoming host. We didn't have any problems but if we had, I'm sure she would have handled them promptly.
Sadly, we only stayed one night with Gloria and her family – we would have loved to have stayed for longer. The place was lovely and the surroundings are so beautiful. Gloria and her husband gave us some great tips for the area and they were so welcoming and easy going. We highly recommend a stay in Bishop, but make it for more than one night!
We loved the cottage, especially coming from Las Vegas it was great to stay at this wonderful and peaceful cozy cottage. Shayne was super nice and brought us fresh eggs and some bread in the morning. It was a pity we only stayed for one night. Was the best sleep ever.
We had a great stay, thank you Gloria!
This is a magical getaway that I highly recommend! The guesthouse is a wonderful place to unwind. We loved spending time with Gloria and the animals - roosters, chickens, and even a lovely pig! The views of the mountains are stunning and the stars in the night sky are dazzling!
We knew from years of visiting Bishop that the location of Gloria's cabin would be lovely, but it was more breathtaking than we anticipated - there is a panoramic view of the crest of the eastern Sierra from the front door that can be enjoyed even more while strolling through the spacious garden, and from the stream side trails nearby. We felt so welcomed there - Gloria's warmth and generosity of spirit makes a guest feel like their stay is the beginning of friendship. Her intelligent and perceptive hosting reflects her own extensive international travel experience. The historically important cabin is cleverly renovated and the utilities updated, and is decorated with elegant and fun furnishings - there is a feel of luxury and The Old West, combined. We enjoyed interacting with the chickens (producers of gourmet-quality eggs), the charming pot-bellied pig, the affectionate cats, and the very sweet Jack Russell terrier, Milo. As birdwatchers, we couldn't have found ourselves in a better setting. We had such a lovely stay in this Rustic Guesthouse in the Sierra.
Just the perfect green island in the Sierra with a great atmosphere in this guesthouse :)) We wish we stayed more nights there. Gloria was very nice and gave helpful information about Yosemite National Park & Death Valley. We had a really great time there.
We had a great layover in the guest house. We were on our way to Yosemite so we didn't stay long, but we enjoyed the rustic setting and the warm welcome Gloria provided (not to mention the fresh eggs, good coffee, and frosty beverages waiting in the fridge). Recommended.
Gloria's place is so beautiful.. You have beautiful views all around of the mountains and at night you see so many stars around you. Gloria is a perfect host who has taken care of almost everything you need. The milk, eggs and the bread were very much appreciated. I will definitely miss playing with Milo. We would love to recommend Gloria anytime to our friends and family.
We had an excellent 2 nights in the guesthouse and would thoroughly recommend it. Gloria is an excellent host, great to communicate with, left stuff for breakfast and was really friendly. Ideal location too with nice restaurants in Bishop and relatively close to Yosemite National Park. Also amazing views both at day and night. If you are looking for somewhere in the area then definitely stay here!
great guest - please come back!
Although I have not met Gloria in person, the few exchanges we made over email were smooth and nice. She seemed to enjoy the place and I hope we'll meet one day!
Very nice people! Thank you!
