Julie and Peter are lovely. The environment is warm and inviting. They put me on the trail to a great bakery and a cool bar. The only downside was not having more time to get to know them. Highly recommend Church des Artistes:)
We were welcomed at the front door warmly by Peter, then Julie. We were shown our room, given the lay of the land, etc. They were expecting us and were prepared to step into the host role. We loved our room from first sight. After unpacking and changing, we left for the evening, returning late. Lights were on, candles were lit...we felt very at home.
The Library Retreat is not accurately described as it is impossible to put into words how amazingly wonderful it is. I have stayed in hundreds of places across the globe and this is without a doubt one of my favorites. The terrace area at night is one of the most peaceful spaces I have ever lounged, lit with dozens of tea lights and surrounded by greenery and accompanied by the sound of little pond with a bubbling water feature. The breakfast looked like something out a cooking magazine and is not to be missed! Julie and Peter were incredibly friendly and recommended great spots in the area (DO NOT miss High Falls cliff jumping and eating/drinking at The Anchor). We will definitely be back and I suggest you go. NOW!
It was such a nice relaxing place to stay and a short walk to the waterfront. Julie and Peter were wonderful hosts and very helpful with my travel plans.
Our little paradise! As I am sure you have probably read by now Peter and Julie are amazing and their chapel B & B is a little piece if heaven.
Due to hurricane Arthur, my partner and I were unable to make our big annual family trip to St. Simons Island in Georgia. We were devastated and at the last minute decided that we just needed to escape from the city (NYC). We were thrilled to find one night at Church des Artistes. Unfortunately, there was a glitch with airbnb and Peter called us right away to tell us that "The Library" room was not available and that they were full for the weekend. However, he said that they have one room that they do not always open that is significantly smaller, but that we could stay for this 4th if we desired to do so. We loved our cozy room and we were so grateful that Peter and Julie made space for us.
Our disaster of a 4th transformed into a completely magical weekend thanks to Peter and Julie. Church des Artistes is light, airy, charming, and filled with positive and creative energy. Just sitting in the garden drinking their delicious coffee after breakfast would have been enough to completely transform our weekend but we also relished in their delicious organic breakfasts and an impromptu concert on Sunday given by composer Peter and his very talented soprano intern.
Again, we were so grateful for our saved July 4th weekend at this little piece of paradise and hope to be back soon. I recommend booking early as they are not a secret paradise anymore and taking their advice when they suggest going to local restaurant DUO (or really when they suggest doing anything ;) ) . My foodie partner and I were blown away by our meal there!
1. Their whole house is so full of stories—from wall decor to tea sets and jams to the repurposed studio, it's intimate and magical.
2. Arriving late, all we wanted was a bottle of wine but the shops were closed. No problem, since they stocked a nice Bordeaux.
3. After picking us up from the bus terminal, Peter got out of his car in the pouring rain to speak with the Venetian restaurant and see if their favorite chef/good friend was still around.
This is just the beginning of a lovely, restorative weekend. Highly, highly recommended!
Peter and Julie have created an incredible home and life. It has been our pleasure to stay in this beautiful space (twice now!); it's the perfect getaway. The breakfast is instagram-worthy, as is the garden where we enjoyed it. And the rooms themselves are comfortable and light-filled. If I say more, I'll start to sound mushy. Just go!
We had a wonderful stay. Peter, Julie and their son Mathew where wonderful hosts. Their church and home with the wonderful garden was a magical place. I can't wait to stay again. They also know everything about the area and can make great recommendations for things to do and places to eat. Thanks for a great stay!!!!
Peter and Julie are truly warm and welcoming hosts, and made our stay at Des Artistes far beyond what we could have imagined. Their home is a reflection of them: peaceful, authentic, and full of beauty and balance. The renovated church has cloudlike beds, stained glass windows, magical studios and a satisfyingly massive kitchen. Julie and Peter had great suggestions of places to eat, and made us appreciate Kingston for the diverse and artistic community that it is. Julie's delicious breakfast waiting in the morning is completely amazing, and accompanied by easy, intelligent conversation. Special folks. Special place. Authentic experience.
Our experience was wonderful. Everything was beautiful and Peter and Julie are super nice and welcoming. I will be recommending their place to friends.
Peter and his wife sleeped here only for a night. They are a very wonderful and friendly couple. We are happy to meet them and we hope they will stay here again. Ideal as guests.
Peter, Julie and Aria are a lovely family - we got into this business because of people like them. A pleasure to host. If we are ever in Kingston NY, we will be sure to stay with them at their (Air)B&B!
