The host herself is very friendly, helpful and responsive and this place is situated in a great location. Unfortunately however we were disappointed with the conditions of this accommodation as it was not as clean as it appears in the photos and the building itself is in need of repairs. Definitely more of a hostel. We would NOT stay here again.
Our stay at Jen's was fantastic! The B&B was beautiful and very cool, there was awesome art everywhere in the house! Jen was very accommodating and nice! She also gave us great advice on where to check out some cool bars and an awesome vegan restaurant! We were also close to everything :D Thank you Jen for such a great trip... and the bagels!
We really loved Jen's place and the location could not be better. It is steps from the metro and right on the plateau where there are some of the best restaurants and shopping in Montreal. There is even a sushi place downstairs where we had an amazing take out meal in Jen's lovely sitting room. I would stay there again next time I go to Montreal.
Jen was really friendly, accommodating and extremely responsive. She was also very open and helpful to provide advice on what to do in Montreal, places to see, directions (she also gave me a map people had left behind at the b&b), events happening, etc. The b&b is very well located on busy St. Denis Street, in close proximity to Mont Royal Park and many nice places to go out and visit. The room provides simple comfort in a nice, friendly and colorful environment.
The apartment is very charming and well-located within the Plateau. The West Room is quiet, with a nice big window facing the back. We enjoyed the communal kitchen and back balcony. Everything was neat and clean, and Jen was friendly and welcoming.
My only negative comment would be that listing the B+B as having air conditioning is misleading. The nights were comfortable enough with just a fan, but might not be what some are expecting.
This place had all of the basics I needed for my stay in Montreal. I'm the type of traveler that will be out and about almost all-day long, so I really just need a bed and a bathroom to rest and recharge for the next day. This is a great location -- excellent restaurants and cafes within walking distance as well as 2 metro stations that will take you into the city or the greater Montreal area. The rooms were very clean, and Jen was a great host. She's very helpful in getting you situated. For example, parking can be difficult because St-Denis is a busy street and the immediate neighborhood is zoned for residential parking (so you otherwise risk getting a parking ticket). Jen pointed me to a parking lot nearby where I was able to safely station my car for my stay.
A few things to note that might be helpful for prospective visitors:
- This was a former residence, so aside from the house number indicated outside on the door there isn't any other sign that would help you quickly identify where to go. So, you'll want to make note of the cross-streets to help with this, whether you're driving, taking a taxi, etc.
- As noted in the listing, it is a shared bathroom. So, it's like a hostel in that way (even though the rooms are private and have separate locks).
- My room in particular was not air-conditioned, but there was a fan and a window that can open to allow for cross ventilation. It wasn't a problem for me (and this was during the summer).
- Jen is generally flexible with your check-in time, but just be sure to communicate when you plan on arriving so that she can prepare your room in advance, meet you at the B&B to give you a brief overview and your keys. She does not live on-site, but she does live nearby in case you need anything.
I would consider staying here again if I come back to Montreal. Cheers!
In a great location, one of the best neighbourhoods in Montreal. Jen's place was just what we were looking for: quiet, easy access to public transit and a fun space.
I would describe this property more as a "hostel with delicious bagels" than a "B&B," but that's perfectly ok. What it does well, it does really well! We had the room pictured in the airbnb profile and it was nice--a good size, and clean. The rest of the building is older, a bit shabby, but definitely clean and more than adequate. There is one bathroom and several other bedrooms that are rented out. Getting bathroom time and hot water were never a problem, even though others were staying. The kitchen and other common areas, including back garden balcony, are nice too.
This airbnb stay was a little different in that we didn't interact with the hosts much. We actually never met Jen. Instead, her husband Jesse met us and let us into our room. He was welcoming and showed us around. There was also a handy welcome sheet in the room with wifi info, restaurant suggestions, etc. (The pizza restaurant across the street is great!)
The neighborhood is fantastic, and definitely what makes this place such a great deal. It's very close to the metro, restaurants, and a little grocery store. If you like walking vacation, you can definitely walk downtown or to the old city from the location.
It was a good place to stay, and I'd recommend it to others.
Jen was an excellent and helpful host! She was very friendly at check-in and offered excellent suggestions for places to eat and things to do around the neighborhood.
The location of the Airbnb couldn't have been more perfect, extremely walkable to many restaurants and shops! First time in Montreal, and feel very lucky that friends who had stayed at this location recommended this Airbnb to me. The BIXI bike share system has many docking stations near the Airbnb location, and the Laurier Metro station is just a couple blocks away. The maps and guidebooks in the apartment were great to have as references!
Jen was extremely friendly and hospitable. She gave me a few restaurant recommendations nearby and was always available to answer any questions. The apartment is perfectly located near St. Denis close to both Laurier & Mont-Royal Metros. It is also very close to Mile End and St. Laurent. The apartment itself is decorated with eclectic details. A good value option for the budget traveller.
Jen and her partner are hosts themselves so they know what our work is about, which is great. They were easy to communicate with, kept me informed about their plans (though their stay was short) and left the room neat and tidy. Great guests!
Jen and her friend were the perfect guest, clean, calm, respecfull, independents and uncomplicated.
Don't doubt to host them!
Jen and Jesse are a nice person; easygoing, kind, respectful, and quit. I totally recommend them as host Thanks.
It was great to have Jen stay here!
This home is a beautifully done residence, centrally located in the arts district, close to Magill and with one of the most fun families you are ever likely to encounter. Swedish massages available on site, great info on where to eat and visit, plus a yummy, healthy breakfast. What more could you ask!
