I complained to airbnb officially about this review, and they said they felt I had a good reason to complain, and apologised on behalf of these hosts.
when we checked in, we explained that we were in the area for a wedding party and asked if we could change the check out time to 12 pm, as it would be the day after the wedding party. Our host agreed.
On the day of check out, the host arrived half an hour before the agreed check out time, and I was still tidying up and packing. There happened to be 2 sofa cushions on the floor (I was re-making the sofa bed) and a hairbrush on the floor. As our host's mother arrived at this moment, she went mad at me and started screaming at me and being generally quite aggressive.
I couldn't work it out because as far as I could see, we hadn't done anything wrong. I ended up getting quite upset. She reduced me to tears; my 2 male companions tried to peacefully intervene, but she paid no attention and was very abusive towards me.
I was very upset by the review they left me as I felt it was totally unfair. They agreed to a later check out time, so the fact we checked out 'late' is redundant. They also accused us of being dirty. We stayed at their beach side apartment for 3 days (3 guests). Obviously you are going to have to hoover and clean up after. Sand gets everywhere. That was the only mess we left.
We also had a very uncomfortable experience when we checked out, as Mirko's mother tried to accuse us of stealing linen. She marched us into the bedroom, started counting sheets (It had got to the point where I genuinely thought she was going to point out stains on the sheets that's how intense she was) when she realised there was nothing missing she calmed down a bit, but she had already really offended me.
If you look at my other reviews, they are very positive, stating that I am very clean and respectful, one host even said 'the perfect guests'. This is why I am taking issue and complaining, as I don't think it's fair for one person to post a bogus review which might influence others.
More importantly, I don't think it's good for a reputable company like airbnb to allow hosts on their suite who are aggressive bordering on abusive.
When I complained to airbnb, they said they couldn't remove this bogus review due to the fact that it didn't officially break any rules. However, they did apologise, said they thought what I experienced was out of order, and told me to post this response.
