I've lived in Malaysia, Singapore, the US, UK and parts of Europe. As a traveller, I believe in living like a local as much as possible and immersing myself in the culture of the country. That's why an Airbnb hosting appeals to me.
Fantastic loft in a shophouse in Georgetown. You feel like you have gone back in time living in the 1960s. If you ignore the air-conditioners, flat-screen television and ceiling fans, everything else (such as the wooden louvre windows, mega old-school CRT television and wooden furnishing) provides the exceptional retro ambience.
1) A cab was arranged for us (RM40)
2) Cosy and clean place for a group of friends to hang out together
3) Toilet was very clean (important for me)
4) Great location in Georgetown with many food establishments nearby
5) A map drawn up by host on recommended eating spots in the vicinity
6) Couple of convenience stores nearby
1) Slightly steep steps to climb to 3rd floor of shophouse (but a great workout after meal; can consider 1st floor studio of shophouse)
2) Loft above can get rather warm after a day of sun (thankfully there was a/c)
3) There were mosquitoes at night
Comfy and clean studio in a great location.
The studio is just like how it's shown in the photos.
Especially recommended for foodies who are after the Penang local delicacies, as many popular food stalls are within short walking distance.
He had a very nice 3 night stay at the house! Rented bike nearby and explored Georgetown in the mornings and evenings. During the day it was simply too hot!
Nice and clean house, good location near all the foodstalls, little India and China, and great help from our host by washing some of our cloths.
Only minus was the loud noise in the streeds at night that kept us awake alot!!
Had a pleasant stay here at the shophouse! Was
greeted warmly when we first arrived, and directed to maps and brochures when we enquired about where we could eat and
where could we see the murals. (Cute hand drawn map
on nearby places to eat! I enjoyed the little kaya toast shop nearby, and the smell of freshly baked bread next door!)
The place itself was beautifully furnished, with so much attention to detail paid in the little things we use. (A fabric keychain with our key lock pass code stickered on it, choices of coffee and tea to have in assorted mugs, some books by the bedside to read before bed, etc). Overall, a very homey place, one that can also be appreciated in its signature shophouse style. I loved the airwell that let natural daylight in the middle of the space, and the cooling interior thanks to the thick brick walls.
Beautiful place! Would definitely love to go back!!
We had a stay of 4 weeks on the ground floor of the shophouse. It's in a mainly residential street near to good places to eat, shops, temples, markets and the busyness of life in Georgetown. The heritage area and the esplanade are just a short walk away.
The important things: the shophouse is well located; it was clean and serviced regularly and well; the bed was comfortable; there was space for us to hang out; the kitchen and bathroom were simple but serviceable; the owner, Sharon, and her mother, were friendly, warm, welcoming and very responsive to any issues that came up.
We were completely happy with our stay in the shophouse, it served our needs well, which were to have a comfortable, spacious well-located place to stay for an extended time.
If anyone is visiting George Town Penang, you must consider staying at this shop house loft. It is a beautiful loft. Love the heritage building and all it's history. Large and airy. My friends and I really enjoy the neighbourhood. There were so many places to eat and explore. Recommend the famous Teochew chendol. I had two bowls. I wish I ate more! Look at the drawn out map provided for all the good places to eat.
We were able to book the place at the last minute after we had to change our travel plan. Sharon was very accommodating in letting me know the details and very understanding. Great communication. We did not meet Sharon but her friend Chui was there to check us in and show us the place. She was an excellent host, very helpful.
Also a special shout out to Pak Yah, the taxi driver that was arranged for us. Even though it was cheaper than regular taxi, I recommend tipping him big cause he is great!
Sc, just would like to thank you for letting me stay at your shophouse, it is very convenient. I didn't have any problem at all with the house, I was nicely greeted and thank you for the little map you've drawn for me, it was very helpful. All in all I would highly recommend staying at the yellow shophouse and when I go back to Penang, I would definitely stay at yours again.
Overall, a very comfortable stay. We did not meet our host but her mother met us at the studio and was very helpful. Great communication with Sharon and the arrangement to be met by taxi at the airport was very welcome and worked wonderfully! Great location with local attractions and eateries close by and plenty of information to peruse in the studio. Studio itself very comfortable and well furnished. Would recommend. Many thanks Sharon.
