AJ was a great host: really friendly, responsive, and always helpful. Always kept the place immaculately clean and was able to help with all of my questions in the new neighborhood. When I was away and had a package delivered that ended up at some other location, he went to pick it up for me. When there were multiple AirBnBers around, he made an effort to introduce everyone and build a community in the house.
The house is a work in progress (construction, new additions), but AJ is serious about constantly improving it, and I see this as an upside for future tenants as new features are added. My two minor gripes would be limited water pressure in the shower and a dog that doesn't come off as very friendly. Again, he is working on training it and doesn't let it roam the house, so it didn't impact the experience much.
The neighborhood is a bit of a hike from the Takoma metro stop (20-25 min walk), but if you've checked the map you already noticed this. AJ provided a bike to get around the area and there are bus stops two blocks from the house that take you to downtown DC quickly. There isn't much besides a Safeway and Wal-Mart within 5 minutes of the place, but a 20-30 minute walk will get you to downtown Takoma Park, which has a great variety of restaurants and bars.
I was visiting Richmond for a research trip and the apartment was very conveniently located to all of the museums and archives in the city. It was a clean, quiet space I could return to finish my work each night. AJ was easy to connect with, though I did have a little trouble getting into the apartment at the time we had planned. That said, he was very accommodating. The immediate area is pretty desolate in terms of dining and other conveniences, but if you don't mind walking a few blocks or a quick drive to grab a coffee in the morning, this location works very well.
AJ's place was perfectly located for what we doing in the area. It was cute and I loved the large windows and exposed brick. The place could use some towel hooks, but other than that, it's good. I spoke to AJ briefly on the phone and he gave me instructions on where to find the key. He made it all very easy.
The apartment is really nice and well equipped and in a very convenient location if you need to go to the Convention Centre. It was tidy but not fully clean. It was ok for me but maybe some people with dust allergy could suffer a bit but in general was ok. The only point I missed was to have more information prior to my arrival. I knew in the very last moment that I had to go to another place to take the key. I would have liked to have this information before my arrival. I highly recommend it.
I had a great experience at AJ's place. The room was perfect for my needs, and the house is one mile from the Takoma metro stop. AJ was very welcoming.
We booked a last minute trip to RVA for New Years and AJ's place worked out great. Can walk to lots of bars, restaurants, YMCA, Jefferson, amd VCU. Tarrants is right across the street with great bartenders and good food.
Good size apartment a quick bike ride to the state capitol, Carytown, pretty much everywhere else in central Richmond, and for workouts just a block from the downtown Y. I didn't get to meet A.J. but he was good to deal with via text/phone.
I enjoyed my two-night stay here. The location made it easy to get to most places--it's walking distance to the Main Street train station, the historical downtown area, even Belle Isle. There are a lot of theaters, art studios, and restaurants less than a few blocks away. The space was a vintage apartment with high ceilings. AJ was really responsive on email and the phone. Upon my arrival, he gave me clear instructions for getting into the building, etc. I didn't experience any problem.
Totally enjoyed my stay at this cute Richmond apartment. So many places I could walk to, restaurants, shops and lots of historic sites. AJ was always easy to reach if I needed anything. Also as a female traveling alone always felt very safe. The YMCA gym is a block away and a large well stocked gym. And also could walk to the river over the foot bridge!
This was my first time using Airbnb, A.J. responded quickly and promptly. The apartment was wonderful and located in a great area.
