My name is John and I am running a hostel in Ireland
John was an absolutely lovely host, and is chalked full of helpful information. The setup is lovely and welcoming. Since it's a hostel - a towel is needed (which I didn't have) for showering - so pack one. The breakfast he provided was perfect for pre-outdoor activity. It was also a relatively easy location to find, and he was very understanding of our late arrival.
Best hostel ever! And John could not have been more helpful and accommodating. This hostel is very clean and just like home. The beds are very comfortable, there is a nice kitchen and dining ro and TV room. The yard is gorgeous with a garden and a stream. His father stopped by daily just to see how we were getting in. John knows the area quite well and directed us several days to beautiful locations. Would highly recommend this hostel. Meeting other travelers was excellent and inspiring.
John is a very experienced host. His Hostel is well equipped and a very nice place for children (goat, hens, rabbit, little creek, ...).
He was very friendly and gave us great hints (e.g. Gap of Dunloe).
John's hostel was a great stay!
Good location outside of town with lovely views of the irish countryside :)
He has a great set up for travellers and is a cheerful helpful host.
My friend and I had a wonderful stay in the Dunloe View Hostel! Both John and his father were incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome, even though we only stayed for one night! The hostel itself was nice and small, and had a great atmosphere with travelers of many different ages and nationalities. It was just a lovely and warm place that that I would recommend to anyone traveling through Killarney.
What a fantastic host John is. Myself and a friend stayed for 2 nights with John in his hostel. We had not stayed in hostels since the days when you had to bring your own sleeping bag and do chores ,so this was a big surprise to us. We had our own room with private bathroom. John was on hand to advise on anything you needed to know about exploring the fantastic walks and scenary around this wonderful part of Ireland. He had maps available and would spend any amount of time with you planning out your activities for the day, and indeed advising on the next leg of the journey. It was lovely to come back to a open fire after a day out hiking and a very relaxing athmosphere as well. We met johns father who grows his own veg and he gave us lovely fresh veg that we cooked up in the fully mod con kitchen! The breakfast provided was unreal, John has hens out the back and he provides fresh eggs every day with home made brown bread and cereal and toast and jams etc. For those who thought hostelling was roughing it a bit this place will change your mind, and john is just the best host who really wants his guests to have a great time. We will be back.
The Dunloe View Hostel is a hostel only in price. It is a lovely home with fantastic, cozy, and clean facilities that far outstrip any hostel I have ever stayed! In addition, John and his father were both very friendly and able to provide recommendations or guidance as we needed.
I really cannot speak highly enough of this location or John. It we ever make it back to Ireland, we shall be sure to stay again!
I met John in early 2013 at hostel owners event in Dublin. I found him to be sincere and earnest in his desire to create a great hostel for his guests. I was very impressed by his friendly and helpful nature. John seems like the sort of person who will pour his heart and soul into insuring his guests have the Irish countryside experience of a lifetime. I hope I will one day get to visit him there.
