Lee's place is a quirky detached building behind a beautiful old home in a quiet neighbourhood. The proximity to Porter Square, and all the things on Massachusetts Ave. was excellent for my wife and I to start looking for our own place in Cambridge (and get to MIT for work when required). The place was not as clean as we're used to and is definitely lived in by dogs, but we had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the quiet hide-away after long days of walking about.
Lee was a very accommodating and quite a responsive host, even though the situation didn't lend itself to easy communication. She also thought of little details for us like fresh new towels.
Apt is a separate small house in the garden of the main house. Private entrance. It is very nice and cosy, and at the same time the high ceilings and light made it a very pleasant place. Kitchen is very tiny, but well equipped. 10 min walk to shops at Porter station. 10-20 min walk from many of the Harvard dept. Owner responded quickly and communication was efficient. Apt was sufficiently clean. Friend of host kindly picked me up by car at Porter metro station. (Transport from airport by silver line and red line is very easy, fast and free.)
Owner has a cat and dogs (dogs were not not there) but if you are allergic or want something spotless, this is not the place for you. Owner lives in the apt, so if you prefer a more anonymous place with more empty closet space for example that this is not your place either.
We spent six weeks at Leesteffy's wonderful place and much enjoyed our stay. The pictures give an accurate impression of the house, and the area, too, is beautiful (a part of the Cévennes): Ideal for biking and canoeing (less so for swimming, though), and still close enough to see Avignon or Montpellier in a day trip. We did not meet Leesteffy in person, but she is always available via e-mail, and there is a contact person in the village, too.
Lee is a wonderful host, and is incredibly kind. I was in Cambdrige/Harvard as a visiting scholar for three weeks, staying in different places. Lee was very flexible about the fact that I was changing flats during Easter Sunday - she even picked me up by car as I was moving in after my conference finished, and had also bought me a gluten free breakfast for the morning in case the shops were closed!
Her apartment is located in a quiet area of Cambridge, just past Harvard University Press, and has bags of character. There is a gorgeous patio outside which would be lovely in the summer. (Sadly Massachussets was freezing when I was there).
Lee had her caretaker, Madeleine, meet us upon our arrival in Saint Bresson, a picturesque, quiet village. Everything went very smoothly, and Madeleine even arranged for us to purchase some food from the village hall, where a hunting party was going on and wild boar stew was being served, along with all the trimmings. We arrived hungry, so this was a life-saver! The house itself is everything we wanted and needed: modern conveniences side by side with rustic French beauty. The beds were super-comfortable, the furniture lovely; the entire place was extremely well kept and cared for. The weather was so perfect, we ate breakfast on the small terrace every day. The nearby swimming holes, markets, towns, etc that Lee directed us to were fantastic. Highly recommended!
Très belle maison de village, tout confort, bien équipée et jolie déco!
Perfect quest i hope to see Lee again! Clean and tydi
We thank Lee and her family for choosing our apartment for their stay in Florence.
It was a delight to have Lee and her friend Fred stay in our home. We enjoyed much good conversation and a generous variety of Lee's homemade gluten-free baked goods--by far the tastiest gf food that we have ever eaten.
Lee and Fred were clean, quiet, and very easy going. We would welcome them back with open arms.
