my name is david I am an architect/planner and love to design for nature
Great place to stay. Detach from the modern world. David is a superb host, helping you when you need it. Clise to Hana. Would definitely stay here again/recommendable.
The host canceled this reservation 36 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
actually I cancelled it one minute after I mistakingly accepted not noticing that it had been taken one of those days by a not airbnb customer
Our stay in the Hana Lani Pole house was an adventure in paradise: it was a retreat from civilization, a beautiful setting, and quite relaxing.
The house, set on 20 acres of tropical flowers and foliage, provides an immersive rainforest experience: every day we woke up to the roar of birds singing and insects chirping. The large deck affords a beautiful vantage point to watch the sunrise over the ocean, and the stars at night.
The house itself is up a gravel road: you need a 4WD to get to it. Once there, you will enjoy the ocean view, and be able to relax in the spacious living room, with high ceilings, lots of windows, and over 1,000 books, including many on design and architecture. Walk around the grounds to see 100's of varieties of tropical flowers. Enjoy the open air shower. The respite from human-generated noise was wonderful: no other people within earshot, no cars/trucks, no leaf-blowers/lawn mowers. Just birds, wind, rain, and other sounds of nature.
The house is rustic as David's says: We found geckos and insects in the house - they are abundant in this jungle environment, so bring your bug spray.
While in Hana, we had a Spa day at Travassa at the Hana Hotel, swam at black sand and red sand beaches, and hiked the trail of the 7 sacred pools. We were glad we had a 4WD while in Hana, as there are a lot of natural forces at play in this part of Maui and road conditions can change quickly.
We recommend this house to anyone seeking a beautiful natural setting and are comfortable in a rustic environment.
We had an amazing time for our weekend away in Hana. Most of us live on island and can't wait for our next visit. As the other reviews said the driveway is very steep. We were able to get our Hyundai Santa Fe up after we unloaded it and David helped bring up all of our supplies in his truck. The house is awesome!! Easily slept our group of 8. There are 2 king size beds, 2 couch beds, a hammock and a separate bedroom. The kitchen has everything you need, stove, oven, pots & pans, refrigerator, wine opener, coffee maker, plates, bowls, silverware etc. Our second day poured rain all day but we still had a great time BBQing and playing games all day. I was surprised the outdoor shower had warm water which was really enjoyable after a long day in the ocean. There is also an extensive selection of books to read. David also put gorgeous arrangements of flowers from his property around the house. The ocean view is spectacular!! There are definitely mosquitos so we brought bug spray and mosquito coils which helped. There was also wi fi which was great because none of our cell phones had service and there happened to be a landslide so we had to take an alternate route home. David thank you so much for everything!! We are already planning our next trip can't wait!!!
We had the best stay in David's treehouse, such a wonderful jungle experience! It was like glamping in the middle of the jungle with ocean views! I hope to be fortunate enough to get to stay there again in the future! If you're not afraid of the outdoors and basic living then I highly recommend the treetops experience!
David was great and very responsive. The place is what you would expect, after all it is a treehouse in the middle of the Hawaiian Jungle. The host supplies candles to fight off the mosquitos, towels for the shower, some cooking utensils, etc. but other than that you are on your own. Prepare to rough it. If camping outside with bugs and nature isn't your thing, this isn't the place for you. I loved listening to the rain at night but unfortunately I got eaten up by the mosquitos so we only lasted one night.
A handful of us living in Lahaina came here to get away for a weekend and we cant wait to come back. Super secluded up in the forest with a fantastic view of the ocean. One big open room with 4 beds and a pretty spacious patio, very fun with a small group and great for a couple getaway. Has most cooking utensils and a small grill, just need to bring charcoals and would bring extra citronella candles and plenty bug spray. There are lots of candles provided, but being in the rainforest with no electricity you cant have enough. David was a great help and answered questions within minutes, even while traveling. This place is not a far drive from all the stops in Hana, but suv/truck recommended to get up hill yourself. Great stay!
The pole house was nothing short of spectacular! All the reviews are 100% accurate. Abslutely gorgeous ocean view from the back porch. The driveway is steep & made of gravel & broken rocks, so if you don't ha e a 4x4 vehicle it's a 12 minute walk from the street to the door. (We didn't have one so I timed the walk.) The house was spotless when we arrived. The property manager was gracious & helped us up the driveway with our luggage. We had six people & couldn't get a big enough 4x4 car to rent. Beaches, hikes & small town easily accessible by car. I would 100% stay here again & am already looking to plan our trip back!
David's tree fort is rad. Tucked away in quite Hana. It's a ideal for turning off your devices and reconnecting. Would definitely recommend to outdoor folks.
Staying at Treetops was a dream! David was so friendly and helpful. He gave us all the information we would need before coming and then he even gave us tips for places to go during our stay. It was exactly what we wanted--a peaceful place to escape where we could turn off our phones and just immerse ourselves in the nature surrounding us. The basics are provided, and the general store was a short ride for us to get whatever else we wanted for our stay. We loved reading on the top deck (there are two!) where you get a spectacular view of the ocean beyond the forest. Taking a shower outside with the birds chirping and then sun shining through the trees may sound like a simple thing, but I could not get over how amazing that was! It was also a pleasant surprise to see the propane tanks connected to the shower to provide hot water! My only suggestion or reminder would be to bring long pants and long clothes for the mosquitos. The candle repellants and tiki torches help, but you will want to cover up if you are stepping away to wash dishes, go to the bathroom, etc. I could go on and on about this beautiful sanctuary. My words can only share so much though. You have to see and feel it for yourself! Thank you David for your hospitality and shared love of trees!
