Although I list Colorado as home, I am rarely there for the sake of seasonal work in the Antarctic Program (radios and electronics) or travelling. At this moment, I have just finished a yearlong contract at the McMurdo Station, followed by travels in New Zealand and Australia, visiting many old friends and also seeing new areas. I've just returned to the States now after 13 months abroad.
I've enjoyed airbnb with good previous experiences in Seattle, Richmond, and West NYC in the US, Dresden and Berlin in Germany, and most recently in Christchurch, Wellington, Melbourne, Hobart, Perth, and Sydney. I've also WWOOFed in Australia and New Zealand before, and continue to enjoy connections to those families when I'm able to pass through.
The 5 things I can't live without? Good question, after a year on this most southern continent. I look forward to getting my kitchen in order with the essential olive oil, onions and garlic. A strong cup of coffee is the next (I brought loads with me). Four out of five are therefore consumables.. hmmm.. The other might be languages, having studied a couple for work or travel although even basic fluency is still a goal to work towards! Or b&w darkroom photography, for which I also really look forward to producing portrait prints when I get back to the darkroom after a year absence. One of my profile pics is a sample of previous images, if you find yourself curious!
