Our stay was great! Ella is really help full and friendly and gave us sightseeing advice about the region around stykkisholmur. A beautiful house that feels like home.
Ella’s house was lovely and homely, nice touches make it feel like a home even though all the rooms are rented out. We spent most of our time in the lounge enjoying the view and the hot tub was perfect! Kitchen and bathroom fully equipped, which was lucky as in March it was rather quiet in the village, only 1 restaurant, 1 supermarket, 1 pizza place and an alcohol shop. Was worth the drive up to see the Northern lights over the village. Ella was very friendly, popping in each night to check everything was ok.
Ella was very informative and welcoming. Her B&B is cute and comfortable. Great hot tub and excellent coffee! If you're around Stykkishólmur, this is the place to stay.
Ella and Diana were fabulous! The place was great and clean and the hot tub was superb! Highly recommend!
My husband and I stayed in Ella’s Guesthouse (Cozy B&B in Stykkisholmur) January 28, 2014, and had a wonderful time and I would absolutely recommend it to others. As a matter of fact, we did just that: after leaving Stykkisholmur, and moving on to Reykjavik, we enthusiastically recommended her place to two lovely women that we met staying at our next guesthouse in Rekjavik.
Please note that Ella’s Guesthouse is a real “ranch-style” house (as we would say in the U.S) and other parties/families or individuals might be staying there with you at the same time. (Your personal room is private and lock-able). In some ways we were lucky, because in winter, bookings tend to be fewer and therefore we had the place to ourselves. However, if other parties had shared the house, it would not have been a problem: it’s spacious, tastefully decorated and comfortably fits a number of people as there are quite a few rooms with beds, as well as at least three bathrooms. Additionally, for us, part of the fun of staying at Guesthouses is meeting other travelers. Also, please note that with a winter booking breakfast may not be included.
Another plus: the house has a hot tub! Particularly nice in winter!
The guesthouse has a nicely sized, fully out-fitted kitchen, a lovely living room and an additional desk area with pamphlets and other materials about the area. The living room area also has a wonderful, large long table for eating and can seat a larger party. Particularly helpful if you’re staying a couple of days.
One of the things we really liked about our stay was Ella’s thorough introduction and focus on our needs. She met us on the main street in her car, and we followed her to the guesthouse. She helped us figure out a good place for dinner (beware: in winter the grocery store closes pretty early and the restaurant might have limited hours). We actually had our best meal in Iceland (per Ella’s recommendation) at the café below the Hostel, facing the marina and harbor. If you’re lucky you get to taste the Fiskesuppe!
We felt quite fortunate getting our booking with Ella, as we had been staying in the north of Iceland and booked last minute. Ella responded to us quickly via airbnb and is also easy to reach by telephone. Visiting Stykkisholmur and Ella’s Cozy B&B was honestly one of the best things we did Iceland. In winter I definitely recommend the following: get a small 4-wheel drive WITH studded tires (they grip the ice). Drive a circular route around the Snaefellsness peninsula (coming either from the north or the south). Fantastical mountain and sea views. Always (ALWAYS) look at the national roads/weather site before venturing out: (website hidden)
We were a little confused with the location - Hofdgata is actually divided into two streets with a gap in the middle and we went to the wrong end. But we rang Ella and she drove to meet us and we followed her to the B&B. We were delighted with our accommodation and the attention to detail with everything from the wonderfully comfortable bed to the decor to the delicious breakfast. Ella was so welcoming and provided us with great suggestions for things to do. Ella explained that she had to go to Reykjavik unexpectedly so she arranged for us to spend the second night at Hotel Egilson - another treat - and whilst it may have been a nuisance to change accommodation it was done so smoothly and well it was no hassle at all. We'd thoroughly recommend Hofdgata B&B - it's a real delight to sink into the bed at the end of a day exploring the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and then next morning have such a delicious breakfast taking in the view of Styykisholmur with the sun pouring in through the window.
Lovely stay! Room was exactly as pictured, bright and cozy. The big picture window viewed the beautiful church. Shared bathroom was very clean. Breakfast was tasty, and prepared at our requested time. There was coffee, tea, and chocolates in the afternoon. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
Great B&B that's easily within walking distance of everything to see in this little town.
Loved our stay in Stykkisholmur, and Iceland generally speaking! The accommodation was as described and pictured - very clean, efficient -- and with a hearty breakfast! The staff was also very accommodating in making tour and sights recommendations.
I have a stay in this well situated - near by the port with a fine lighthouse with a beautiful view - and nice apartment.
I had a light room with nice furniture great enough.
The breakfast is good and the people, there in the morning approx. three to four, are good partner for interesting talks.
The bed is good and the bathroom (shower) are clean.
I had a good time and wish Ella all the best.
Beautiful town, friendly hostess and great beds. Don’t miss the breakfast.
