I was very sorry about the damage to the outdoor chair. We were with the dog when the damage occurred, but as she had just been playing with a toy, we didn't notice immediately. Luckily, the damage was minor and, apparently, has been repaired.
I should mention that the dog Yves mentions is not mine and that I don't usually travel with dogs. As I discussed with Yves prior to the trip, one of the other guests was bringing a dog.
I remain perplexed by the owners' anger about the text message, as my message specified what had happened and expressed my intent to follow up when I returned home. I had left an even more detailed note at the cottage. Given how minor the damage was and my spotty cell phone coverage, text message seemed appropriate and efficient. There's also the fact that the communication structure that they had set up was indirect: there's one person running their airbnb profile, another person responding to communications by phone, and yet another person who was sitting in his car when we arrived (he drove away without speaking to us). There was no one around at check-out, at least not that I could see.
