Chas is a very nice person. However I found it hard to stay in the place that he has the ad on airbnb. It might be good for others but for me was very small (maybe good for only sleeping). As I might want to go out during the night and as a mater of fact you need to take the ladder to go to the out of your place (there is no close light switch, so you need a flash light) it was very hard for me ( I found it dangerous as you might be sleepy and then you fall from the ladder). So I asked for his another place. ( I think he suggest this place to everybody, but he does not put it up on airbnb for a clear reason to me but anyway!). Other place is a room with full of other thing. So If you have 2 luggage like me, then you have only a small bed with a space for your luggage. The bed I am not sure created from what but I think there was a metal thing on top of it which during the cold time was making it even colder! ( I had a thin blanket which was making it better but still cold. So the bed was not comfortable!! His house was really cold. Although he was trying to help a little with a heater but I found it extremely cold. (I was there in Dec. and at that time Bay area was very cold also). So I do not know what should I say. I had no other option and I stayed there for 6 days. Chas by himself is very kind and he tries to help you to feel home. If you cook at home he does not mind. If you have question how to get a place he is very helpful. Also the first day he gave me a ride to the bart station. By the way from his house one can walk also to the bart station which is about 20 minutes or less. There is a natural market close to his place that making my life very easy in order to get food. Oh he is sensitive to using the water I guess. The first day I took a shower and he told me that "your shower was 15 minutes with running water! It was long!" However because the house was super cold I could not turn off the hot water while I was taking a shower. I think if I was in other time of the year (maybe not very cold or hot) I was going to like it more!!
I was up from LA working in SF all week, and Chas was able to accomodate my last minute request for a place to stay. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The location was perfect for me. It is nestled in a quiet neighborhood in the Richmond Annex, but still very close to both El Cerrito BART stations. I enjoyed being able to get into downtown SF quickly for work. I enjoyed the area so much that I will definitely be considering the neighborhood as I move to the Bay Area permanently. Chas was a great host and I enjoyed staying in his home. I enjoyed talking about various issues related to sustainability with him. I'd highly recommend to anyone.
Chas was very accommodating! Cozy sleeping area, clean house, awesome shower and the property is in a nice, quiet area of Richmond. FYI, Chas will probably offer you eggs made from his own chickens. Make sure to try 'em!
Cool relaxed space, though the bed was a little squeaky. Cool house. Nice kitchen. Quiet area. Would recommend.
I felt like at home, thank you very much Chas, you're a great host and your house is very nice and located in a beautiful, quiet area!
Chas was a superb host. His house is clean, comfortable, it emitted a good, relaxed vibe, and has really nice decor. He's a great person to talk to, knows the area very well, and can give you any type of recommendation. He's helpful, he helped my boyfriend and me a lot. Great to have conversations with, he has explored the and done a lot and he's open to share his stories with us.
The neighborhood is quiet and safe, easily accessible to streets and freeway. There is a Bart station nearby, which facilitated going to San Francisco and Berkeley.
We'd love to come back whenever we're around the area.
Thank you Chas!

Chas's offering worked just fine for my stay in the area. He's easy-going, generally available but mostly off doing his own work, and he is a bit of a good-food-afficionado, to boot.
The bedroom is small, but there's ample room to dress, do desk work, store effects, and sleep. The bed is a bit modest: firm, though not hard, and, again, it worked just fine for me. The kitchen & dining area are little used by Chas and thus pretty-much completely available.
The area is safe, quiet, modest, and attractive. It is definitely a good value, and I'm glad I chose it.
Chas was a great host. Very familiar with the area as well as friendly. Was my first experience with airbnb and I would recommend Chas's space to anyone looking for a place close to many restaurants and shops on in the El Cerrito and Albany area.
Response from Chas:
Thanks! Stop by and visit anytime.
I spent a really nice week at Chas'. The room is nice and quiet, the neighborhood is calm and cute and Chas is a lovely and caring host. He has a lot of stories to share, he is really proud of his area and he wants you to really enjoy it !
I am really happy having meeting him.
We enjoyed our conversations with this very interesting host.
Chas hosted me at his place for a number of days in 2012. It was an absolute pleasure to have met Chas; his space, interests and kindness created a lovely atmosphere for my stay. I have extremely fond memories of my trip to San Fran, largely thanks to Chas being such a great host.
