We enjoy crafts, singing, gardening, traveling, bicycles, old cats, libraries and parlor guitars.
This was our second time staying with Ali and David. They are gracious hosts with a lovely home in a pretty residential neighborhood. The upstairs where we stayed is very spacious and private, with accoutrements (coffee maker, mini fridge, bathroom, hairdryer, etc.). I highly recommend them as hosts.
Ali and David were wonderful hosts!
I emailed them about a week ahead of time and they got back to me immediately. David then proceeded to give me all types of vital transportation and local general information, it got to the point where I felt like I knew the city and before I even landed in Portland.
Their house is very cozy and located in a beautiful neighborhood! I stayed in the larger of the two rooms upstairs, which has been completely redone to accommodate visitors. I had my own bathroom, kitchenette and work area.
I don't know what else to day, this was my first Airbnb experience and it couldn't have gone smoother!
Best Meal :
Pine State Biscuits for breakfast, about a 15 minute walk from Ali and Davids house on Alberta Street.
How to get into the City:
I took the 70 bus toward Milwaukee, it took about 10 minutes to get to the North East end downtown.
My son and I really enjoyed our stay at Ali and David's place in NW Portland. It is in a really lovely Portland neighborhood, which is in full spring bloom right now!
The house is near the Natural Choices grocery (everything a foodie needs, including espresso), as well as the Alberta arts district with restaurants, more coffee, galleries and stores. There are at least two bus lines within an easy and pleasant walk, so if you decide to do this without a car, it's very do-able. (That's what we did.) However, if you do have a car, there seemed to be plenty of street parking.
The pictures that AirBnb provides present the upstairs apartment just as it is: cozy, uplifting and private. David and Ali are great hosts (although I wasn't sure if Ali existed at first, since we didn't cross paths until the last day), and really sweet people. I liked their kitties a lot, too, but they aren't allowed to wander upstairs!
I loved my trip to Portland, and I am so grateful I got to stay at Ali and David's home, it felt way less stressful than a hotel. The suite is in the upstairs attic and it has all the amenities you need. It has lots of natural light and it's quiet and in the best neigbourhood (Alberta Arts District/Vernon). It was clean, spacious and it has good vibes. David and Ali are excellent hosts, they are very welcoming and happy to help about anything. It's only three blocks away from the Kennedy School too. I had the best time! Thank you Ali and David (and Angus!).
Where do I even begin? Ali and David's home was absolutely beautiful. Located in a fantastic neighborhood, I was very thankful I chose their space. The space that I stayed in was excellent. They have renovated an attic upstairs that can accommodate several people comfortably. Much better than staying at a hotel. It was tastefully decorated and private enough that it felt like having my own home. Ali and David were very polite and helpful, as well. They were incredibly friendly and simply a pleasure to interact with. If you're going to come to Portland, you've got to stay here!
My stay with Ali & David was easy and lovely. Ali & David were pleasant and helpful in advice re: my first Portland experience. They were very much present and available at anytime I needed them. The 2 bedroom studio was equipped clean and homey fixtures, and my friend and I felt right at home from the get-go. Incidentally their residential neighborhood turned out to be one of the best to stay in, as it was walking distance to sight-seeing spots like Alberta District shopping & Kennedy School as well as a 'tranquil and beautiful getaway from the noise of downtown.
I would recommend staying with Ali & David to anyone, young or old, as they were kind, responsibel and affable hosts!
I was in Portland to apartment hunt. Ali and David were great. They had feat suggestions for places to eat and thugs to do in my free time. I would defintely stay there again.
Ali and David were gracious and flexible hosts. Their rental space was immaculate, comfortable, and thoughtfully outfitted with everything one might need for light dining and housekeeping. I relaxed with a cup of mint tea from the stash in the kitchenette after unpacking and brewed coffee from the fresh supply on hand the next morning. Their charming house is in a walkable neighborhood near a large food market, a pharmacy, and a nice shopping district.
Very clean and a most pleasant experience!
This review is long overdue considering how amazing both Ali and David were. I would recommend anyone who wishes to stay in the Portland area to seriously consider staying with them.
Located in a quiet neighbourhood just minutes away from many hip and trendy cafés and restaurants. Not to mention a decent transit system that will have you in town in just minutes.
The suite they had me in was spacious and immaculate. They were both extremely helpful , friendly, and went far out of their way to make me feel well at home.
If ever I return to the Portland area I would not pass up an opportunity to stay with such a kind and considerate couple. Thank you Ali and David.
Ali and her fella were ideal guests. Totally respectful, easy, appreciative and nice people. 5 out of 5!
Wonderful Guests, considerate quiet and always on the go. Portland must have some of the nicest people. come back anytime ;-)
I had the pleasure of renting Ali and David's apartment prior to them joining Airbnb. I think that perhaps the best way to describe what consummate hosts, and how welcoming they are, is to say that we bought the house opposite so that we could spend many more happy hours with them on their front porch.
I'm not sure how many stars are allowed so ... 100 % top recommendation from me! Ali and David work magic in building a space that gives just the right balance of community connection and personal retreat. They are artists, chefs and craftspeople, and you can feel the care and attention in all the details of the home and food they provide. Absolutely wonderful people who have opened their doors to guests, go if you can!
Ali and David are kind, thoughtful folks. They were some of the first people we met when we moved to Portland over 6 years ago and are dear friends. Their home and garden is lovingly cared for and their porch is the ideal place to hang out. As long time Portland residents they have valuable insight about best places to visit and eat.
We have stayed in David and Ali's rental space many times. It is bright and clean and very recently renovated. They are kind hosts, who will provide you with a safe and quiet environment. Their pets are well behaved and extremely cute. Located near everything hip and happening, this is an affordable and welcoming choice to consider when traveling to Portland.
Ali and David are really fantastic hosts. They are warm and open, and can provide great tips about both their own neighborhood and Portland, generally. They are quick to step in with the loan of a bike or an umbrella or what ever you might need, and walking through their wonderful plantings in the front yard as you go in and out is always such a pleasure. I have stayed in their wonderful upstairs rooms time and time again --their house is truly a home away from home. Thanks, Ali and David!
