We arrived late in the evening, not only to be greeted with rain, but also by Fred who provided a warm welcome, placed leis around our necks and took my husband and I to the villa, showed us around and gave us tips for our stay etc. Our hosts, Rachel and John arrived in the morning to welcome us and visited us again a couple of days later with baked goodies. Yum. Unfortunately the weather was not conducive to swimming or snorkelling for the first 4 days of our stay but we were able to walk along the beach daily (a hop, skip and jump from the villa), catch the bus right outside our accomodation, read and relax and visit places around the island. The bus only goes hourly on the clockwise run and on the half hour - hourly - for the anticlockwise run so you may need to consider hiring a scooter or car to give you flexibility. Rachel can help you with this. John and Rachel also gave us advice on some wonderful restaurants to eat at which did not disappoint - they were fabulous. If you are staying at the villa over a Sunday, don't miss the church service across the road at 10am. It was terrific and the singing absolutely wonderful. The house is well presented and immaculate and provides everything you would need for a short or long stay including, books, videos, reef shoes, snorkels flippers, kayaks etc. The grounds are a delight and well looked after by Rachel and Fred. We also met some terrific guests staying in the other two villas and Fred and his wife Loving put on an umu (like a hungi) one evening for all of us with singing and dancing afterwards by them and their daughters! A lovely evening. A tip if you are a light sleeper - bring ear plugs. The island has roosters roving all over the place and they crow (or cockle doodle do) at all times of the night which is not conducive to a good nights sleep (even tho the beds are very comfortable) if you sleep light. Otherwise this is a well appointed, 2 bedroom villa (Tiana) ideal for a family which will provide all that you need for your stay, including lovely hosts. Thank you Rachel and John.
Thank you Rachel & John for making our first visit to Rarotonga so enjoyable. Mikayla Palms was absolutely prefect....close to the beach, clean, spacious and beautifully maintained, even had yummy home made rum balls in the fridge and a gorgeous homemade christmas breakfast made by Rachel & John. An extremely memorable family holiday.
What an ideal spot on a beautiful island. Our accommodation was perfect and our host, Rachel's son Ben, did a wonderful job making our stay as relaxing and welcoming as possible. The place was bright, tastefully decorated, and on such a gorgeous part of the island. It was absolutely fantastic!
