My husband, Skyler, and I live in Beaverton, a suburb of Portland, Oregon. He's an electrical engineer; I'm an administrator/ office-type person. We are generally easy-going, nerdy types who spend most evenings playing games or hanging out with friends, or just cooking dinner at home.
We are both what I would call "relaxed planners" when it comes to travel. We like to have a basic plan (where to stay, one good tour, a few things to see), but are open to spontaneous decisions when something strikes our fancy. We love eating local cuisine and drinking local beer and wine (we do a bit of brewing ourselves at home). We like to avoid places swarmed with tourists, when possible, and we love to find a city's hidden gems.
As homeowners, we can appreciate the time, energy and love that goes into creating and maintaining a home. We are very respectful of other people's property as well as their time and wishes; if we stay with you, we are happy to come and go independently, or chat over a glass of wine in the evenings and talk politics-- whatever is appropriate. We are certainly capable travelers, but happy to have local input on places to go, things to eat, etc., as well as the chance to make a new friend!
We've done some traveling in East Asia, North Africa and Greece, and we're currently planning a three-week adventure through Europe, visiting friends in September. Thank you in advance for your hospitality, and we're looking forward to meeting you!
