Can't live without my Roger, my cabin, my dog, cheese & red wine.
We booked the yurt as a relatively cheap option for a summer holiday - just 4 nights - myself, my 13 yr old son plus my grown-up daughter.
The drive to the property is steep and winding (the track might cause difficulties for people with low-chassis cars but our little Diahatsu managed it) this really is in the middle of the woods.
We were greeted in the rain by Christa with a brolly, who helped us with our bags to the yurt (it is a walk into the woods, past the timber clad caravan where you will cook, and wash in a tiny cupboard of a shower (not mentioned in the listing - we only braved it once during our stay - although apparently they are going to replace it with a new unit) - past the loo and onto the yurt. Thankfully the wood burning stove was lit and roaring - this was so welcome in the rubbish weather! We were supplied with plenty of kindling and logs to have a fire every night and once it got going we were stripping off the layers in the heat!
BRING WELLIES (I stupidly didn't and we bought some in Llandovery - which is close by and a real village with real shops and real people, all very friendly). We have camped a lot and I stupidly thought this wouldn't be camping! IT IS CAMPING. Our towels didn't dry out and our clothes got damp unless we zipped them up in our bags, the matches got damp and our books curled in the damp.
I think if you fancy a couple of days away from it all then this is the place for you - I wouldn't recommend it for longer - but the yurt is roomy and you can see stars through the roof light. The loo has a view across the woodland if you fancy leaving the door open. Owls hoot at night and it is pitch black (take a torch for night trips to the loo).
What you see in the pictures is what you get, the yurt, the loo and the caravan are spaced apart, the caravan is a bit run down and tatty and the kitchen is a basic caravan set up with basic stuff in it (take a sharp knife). I'd be inclined to take my own towels and line too if I went again.
We drove to the coast to try and catch some decent weather - and this takes a little over an hour each way - well worth the effort.
There is wifi, but not in the yurt (just in the caravan, which is pretty dark and gloomy in comparison with the yurt) which was a shame because we all like our wifi for music etc when we are away.
We had booked this property because of the wood fired sauna but sadly a previous guest had burned it down before our arrival.
And most people call this Paradise & wish they could have stayed for longer!
I'm sorry you were evidently daunted by the down to earth nature of our little retreat.
We had a wonderful time at Christa's yurt. So peaceful and secluded and cosy and lovely! Thanks so much! Claire
We absolutely loved staying at the yurt. A very rural setting made for absolute relaxation. Everything had been thought through and we had an awesome experience.
Lovely peaceful setting. Great place to relax. Very friendly and polite hosts.
A wonderful Yurt located in idyllic surroundings, the wood for the burner, tea lights and a couple of mini bottles of wine provided by the lovely Christa and Roger along with the privacy they gave us made for a peaceful break away. All was as stated except that the sauna, unfortunately for us, had been burnt down by a previous occupant. Please refer to directions on how to find the property, they do get you there and we would definitely like to stay again one day.
Thanks, we'd be delighted to have you back! The new sauna is on it's way....
Christa and Roger were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The yurt itself was very rustic, beautiful and romantic. It was the perfect way to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. The surroundings were gorgeous, everywhere you looked, the view was fantastic. It would have been lovely to use the sauna, which wasn't available at the time, but to be honest, it didn't really bother us. We still had a lovely time, we even had a deep in the river when the weather was really hot. We were really sad when we had to leave, we could have stayed longer than 3 nights. We can't wait to go back.
And we're looking forward to welcoming you back, it was really lovely to have you to stay.
A wonderful place and we had sunshine. Thank you.
Peaceful retreat in the midst of the beautiful, vibrant countryside of South Wales. The Yurt comfortably sleeps 4 to 5 people, with the pictures on here an honest depiction of the cosy and quirky setup.
Beautiful place and a wonderful host hope to come again soon x
You'll be very welcome! x
Great place - exceptionally beautiful. Would recommend if you want to get away from it all. One thing though,we didn't get any directions with the Airbnb confirmation - only a link to a GPS location! If this happens to you, email Christa for written directions otherwise you'll get very lost! The pin on the Airbnb map is actually about 5 miles from the site, so is pretty useless! But apart from that, everything was great.
