I did not meet Iris but we communicated by Airbnb, she always asked me if I needed anything, she is very attentive person. The apartment has with all you need to get a great stay. The only is that it is very noisy.
The location is good, near the 77th subway station (line 6). However the apartment is above a restaurant in a busy avenue that is very noisy all the time, including during the night. Also the bedroom has no blind in the window, causing it to be very bright in the mornings. These issues make it very hard to sleep at all times.
The host canceled this reservation the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Everything was ok. Good location and apartment. A little expensive. Iris was always aviable and friendly.
It was good.
We are doctors with 3 Kids and came to New York for professional activities.
The apartment has great location, but is old and in poor condition. The heating system is leaking hot water dangerously. But the main problem was the outrageous behavior of the host Iris. First, she asked us to declare that we spent one month in the apartment instead of 5 days, because this would avoid legal problems for her, because she was subleting it. This is unacceptable.
Once, she called us at night asking to open the building door for a couple of other of her guests with a small baby that had forgotten their key. Despite of being asking a favor, during the phone call she was very agressive with my husband because he was not understanding her english.
Worst, the couple told us that they were waiting for hours on the street and the host Iris didn't go there to support them.
Finaly, she didn't go there for our check-out and some house later she falsely accused us of breaking one air bed and a table and a sofa legs.
Not only this, she tried to charge us the absurd amount of US$ 4.000 as a compensation!
Her behavior is unacceptable and outrageous.
Unfortunately, only after all these problems we read the other guests comments and knew that she had done the same before (guest Christian - Setember 2013). In that time Airbnb sorted everything out. Hopefully they will do the same now, but this situation is very distressing to us.
I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. The host, Iris, was as accommodating as she could be, but it wasn't enough for a good review. First off, the apartment wasn't as clean as it looks. It is not well taken care of and they could've spent more time actually cleaning it, including the windows. But that's not my main complaint. The heat is controlled by the building. I arrived in 30 degree weather and it was uncomfortably hot in the apartment (and I am used to heat; 100 degree weather in California, so you know it's legitimately hot if I'm complaining). A gentleman, Artur, who let us in, was of no help with this. I had to open windows to cool it off, and open windows on 2nd street makes for a noisy stay. We didn't sleep at ALL the first night because of this. I feel bad that my friend called Iris at 6am, who got quite upset with her for not listening to him, until she finally offered some helpful options. We asked for a fan to 1) cool off and 2) provide some white noise, which she provided along with earplugs. She also suggested we turn the radiator off to turn off the heat - which would've been nice to know before the first night. Tried that, but the heat never really let up. Not only does the heat still leak through the radiator, but the heat radiates through at least 3-4 pipes throughout the apartment (which you can sort of see in the pictures of the bedroom and living area, and are very hot to touch btw). We had to open the windows all day long so that it wasn't a sauna by the time we returned.
Other than that, the place was decent. WAY overpriced considering the issues we had, in comparison to other apartments we had found on Airbnb. Iris offered to buy us coffee and croissants for the inconvenience, which was sweet, but just not good enough. Needless to say, I will never stay here again.
