Price was the key criteria for me in choosing a place to stay in Sydney - a notoriously expensive place to live. Staying here ticked that box. The two flatmates in the place were also great. They were super friendly but were fine about me doing my own thing. The room itself was a good size and the bed comfy. On the downside, like many of these houses, there is rising damp and there was quite a strong smell coming off the carpets, even with the room air freshener I bought, and this combined with inevitable cooking smells from the kitchen means it's not the best place if you're sensitive to strong odours. The other major factor is that no one was managing the room, and the house itself (email hidden)d-in, slightly chaotic place. When I arrived there was mildew-y smelling bed linen and the floor was covered in dirt/detritus from the previous guest. There was little space provided in the kitchen for storing food in the fridge/cupboards. Also no towel provided, but one of the housemates (again I want to stress how nice they were!) lent me one for my stay. Not mentioned before I booked but it became clear that you had to pull your weight in terms of housework, which, again, is reasonable but not what I had expected. I imagine this is all commensurate with the relatively low rent I was being charged so I can't complain. These are factors that might be important to future guests though.
Melissa was a great host ! Although I never met her personally she ensured her roommates were well aware of the guest arriving and her flat mates are awesome people as well. I definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a bit of culture, with so many great pubs and diners so close in Newtown yet being far enough where its still tranquil to have a great night sleep. You will enjoy your stay here.
