I am a long term resident and lover of Kyoto.
I have lived in Kyoto for more than 15 years and am keen to share what limited insight I have gained over that time with guests.
I love to travel and explore, particularly neighbouring Asian countries.
We stayed at the Hidden Inn in mid February. Although it could accommodate more people, we felt that there was plenty of space for the 2 of us. My initial reaction when I first walked in was how clean the place was. There was also some complimentary snacks & drinks provided so that we did not have to rush out immediately to the convenience store (which was only just around the corner). The house contains all the "mod-cons" like in your own home such as air-conditioner on both ground and first floor, heater (which came in very handy during our stay), large TV with a Sony Playstation, well equipped kitchen and washer and dryer.
If you really want a good shower experience too, this is place will provide this for you! In addition, there is also a balcony off the bedroom with table and chairs for your enjoyment.
The location is in a quiet area yet close to many attractions such as downtown, Gion and to public transport. We found that taxis are reasonably priced in Kyoto.
We also found the host, Keith, very helpful and responsive to our emails and questions which made our stay even more pleasant.
Property recommend. Thank you Keith
Hidden Inn was a Godsend! When we arrived it was immaculately clean, with a homely feel and some welcome snacks. Hidden Inn has the BEST shower I have ever experienced! The balcony is beautiful and we were lucky enough to have a snowy day in Kyoto which meant we could enjoy the house to its fullest potential. The washer and dryer was an added bonus after three weeks of solid travelling and snowboarding. This place is definitely worth staying in! Also has a great location within walking distance of shops, restaurants and a bike store to hire bikes!
We found the townhouse to be in excellent shape. As a family of five, with adult children, the space was close but not uncomfortable. As the owner explains, this is typical for Japan. He provided detailed instructions and we had no problems at all.
The location is quiet yet close to many attractions and to public transportation.
Keith's place was truly a hidden gem! Plenty of space for 4 adults with everything you would need for any length of stay be it 3 days or a month!
We did not have a chance to meet Keith in person, yet he was always immediate to respond with information about the house or the neighborhood. His directions were very precise and helpful in the Taxi. He was also very gracious to extend our checkout time by 3 hours which gave us and additional morning run in Kyoto.
Lastly, I have to mention the keyless entry to the house! Simple but so useful for a group of people with vacation brain;-)
This property is located in Higashiyama which is a very center location to visit Temples and within walking distance of incredible Gion area and downtown with food market. There are great restaurants within walking distance but I think next time I will rent a bicycle so I can see more because the city is quite large The Townhouse was perfectly clean, luxurious and very comfortable. There is a cool patio off the bedroom with table and chairs. Japanese bath was very relaxing. Keith gave very clear directions by photo as the townhouse is within a very quiet alley way in an older traditional area with craft stores. Keith also was very helpful with information and provided local material and recommendations. He was very responsive with communications. Overall my Kyoto experience was very positive and the accommodations really nice. I recommend this property. thanks keith!
We really enjoyed our stay at Hidden Inn in Kyoto. It was perfect for us - extremely clean, modern and quiet. A lot of effort was obviously made to provide for guests' needs - even sticky tape for our well worn map! The photos & directions on the web and the detailed guest information were really useful. Easy communication with the manager.
We walked to Kiyomizu-dera and Gion. We didn't end-up using trains for the longer trips as taxis were cheaper than expected & easy to find at the temple a few minutes walk away.
We stayed for 5 nights & would've happily stayed for more. There's still lots more to see in Kyoto & we really hope to stay at Hidden Inn again!
Keith tres sympa et aceuillant, l'appart bien fait, des bieres etc dans le frigo, livres et cartes, tout bien fait. Excellent
Hidden Inn offers a very comfortable apartment, in the Western sense in hidden cul-de-sac in Kyoto. The location is terrific being a short walk from some of the best sites in Kyoto, such as Kiyomizu-dera temple. My mother & I especially appreciated a living room with comfortable couch and a kitchen supplied with all the dishes and food preparation tools one expects in an apartment (including basic condiments and a welcoming set of snacks). This sort of 'living room' is not to be expected in Japan, but is one of the key reasons we rent apartments: a private place to relax for a few hours or a whole day when recovery from being a tourist is required.
The apartment had copies of up-to-date local guide books and maps as well as a few DVD movies. Keith proved a fountain of knowledge of places to visit tailored to our requirements.
