Wonderful. Beautiful. The place to be in Shanghai. If you like authentic places, then book this one. You are in one of the nicest neighbourhoods in the nicest district in China, the French Concession. There many great bars and cafes round the corner. Highly recommended if you like electronic music: the Lola, just one block away. The apartment is spacy, tastefully furnished, the balcony is just lovely. In the morning you will the old ladies from the neighbourhood in the backyard, doing their early sports. Yes, it is a very old and unrenovated house. The bathroom is old, the kitchen sink blocked. I caught one mouse. I didn't mind that - because the rest is so perfect. I spend one month in Brian's apartment, and my heart was bleeding when I had to leave. Sincerely - if I could I would have stayed. Brian is a great, cool guy, very helpful. Believe it or not - he has prepared a little guidebook for the neighbourhood, where he gives recommendations where to eat and drink. --- If I were you - I would check this place out!!
Brian's apartment is centrally located in the French Concession. The neighborhood is super cute. A lot of the restaurants, bars, and cafes we liked to visit were within an half an hour walk of the apartment. Brian was extremely helpful and easy to get in touch with by text or phone call. The apartment was very comfortable and quiet at night. The water cooler really comes in handy because then you don't have to constantly lug water to the apartment. We loved our authentic experience in Shanghai!
Great place, immersed in chinese life, funky furniture.
Definitely not the Hilton, so much better!
Also great Wifi.
Brain very nice and efficient
Brian was super organized and hospitable! His place is very charming, big, and in an amazing location, would definitely stay there again.
The apartment is quirky but spacious, clean, well-appointed, and, most importantly, in the IDEAL neighborhood, the French Concession. There are countless restaurants, cafes, bars, and scenic streets just outside your door. The apartment's bathroom was huge and the shower pressure is AMAZING.
Brian was communicative and helpful, leaving lots of maps and suggestions of places to go. He checked in with us during our stay to make sure we had everything. And when we arrived late, due to a delayed plane, on our first night, he showed good cheer and patience. This was our very first Airbnb experience, and we're looking forward to many more equally wonderful stays!
Comfortable, central apartment in the French Concession. Excellent communication with Brian.
Very quiet, except for one morning when the neighbors started some construction work kind of early.
Brian provides some excellent tips about places to eat and go Thanks.
A great location in a different part of the French concession.
Though the place can be a little tricky to find at first, it has great access to many of the major metro lines and is, as advertised, quiet. To that end, Brian (who speaks Chinese as well as English) makes himself available to anything that may come up. He's a great host for a great city. Thanks!
Brian was responsive to our text messages and phone calls. He answered all our questions about a restaurant and the subway. When we ran out of bottled water, he got some delivered in a few hours. So I left him an extra bottle as a kind of tip. When the electricity in the neighborhood failed, he soothed our frazzle. When the WiFi failed he had a technician there in 15 minutes to fix it. He is a real diplomat.
Any visitor must locate a China Mobile store before anything else to get the SIM card and local phone number or be out of touch with the surging opportunities of the crowds.
The apartment had everything, bedding, water pipe, washer, total kitchen even food and beer. Even though we cleaned it up better than we found it, we still had to pay the cleaning fee. The price was about one fourth of a comparable hotel suite.
The neighborhood, in the old East French Concession built in the 1800s, was an interesting walled suburb of 2 and 3 story buildings and compounds. It was interesting to walk around and was about a mile walk from high rise areas which attracted wealthy buyers of status items and also excellent restaurants.
Major subway lines passed within a 15 minute walk. Abundance of busses, trains, taxis, and subways allowed us to avoid driving in the dangerous traffic which was often full of stalled cars honking their horns in a useless emphasis of ego and self importance.
The people were in too great a hurry to be friendly. The car drivers were homicidal as were the motorcycle riders. Pedestrians were at the lowest level of street hierarchy and liable to be smashed any minute.
There was a vast range of restaurants such as coffee houses, dirty tiny food stalls, fruit stands, California style vegetarian, swanky status layouts for dating, and expensive places.
Shanghai has about 10,000 events and sights to experience every day. Too great a number to catalog. If one attended 5 events, restaurants, and historical venues each day, one would never finish the Shanghai experience.
This apartment was in the middle of the multi-layered hierarchical ocean of people. We had good luck finding this place.
We had a comfortable stay here, the distance to the subway is not so long, the commute to the heart of Shanghai(People's Square) or Pudong Airport is super easy. The mood of the balcony is wonderful. Brian is very friendly and helpful. He told us some fun events in Shanghai, and we really enjoyed.
mr. brian stayed with us for 2 nights. very friendly tourist. enjoyed my masters yoga session. we highly recommend mr. brian and looks forward for his stay next week.
