The Riad was lovely and a great way to experience Fes. We had a great time staying here. Hicham was an nice guy, friendly and helpful. If you search a small Riad in Fez medina, you can choose this.
This place is absolutely gorgeous and the staff was so nice and cute. The manager was very patient and accommodating and helped us out when we were arriving late. The tiles are incredible and the riad itself is beautiful to photograph. Wifi wasn't working so make sure they have that fixed before you go. Breakfast was homemade and very luxurious, but modest.
I feel compelled to write a review after staying here because of the glowing reviews on this site. First, this is an authentic riad, dating back from the earliest days of the medina. That means the doors, tiles and orientation of the rooms are older - people with mobility issues or small children should consider the steep, uneven stairs and walkways. I have allergies - and found that the salon was off limits due to dust, though the bedrooms were clean and the linens and bathroom towels changed daily. We arrived in the early evening without a map, and there is none in the house to be found. We also were told not to be out after nine pm, which really lead to a locked in feeling - no map, limited groceries (what Hircham - who is very nice, helped us secure) and wait until morning to get a guide to show you around - not exactly a vacation feeling one wants. The riad is without ac, and during our stay, it was warm, though not unbearable. Fans helped move the air but it was not ideal by any means.
Directions should be available for the stove - my son almost burned himself trying to light it so we could cook because we couldn't go out after 9 pm.
The two local women who do the cleaning and cooking are nice.
An authentic experience this is - a comfortable one - not so much.
We had a great time staying here and mostly because of Hicham! He was an amazing host, so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much, he arranged our tours and taxis. The Riad was lovely and a great way to experience Fes.
We had a lovely stay at Rabia's Riad. It was so beautiful with amazing mosiacs and carvings. We were looked after so well by all the staff and it was a great location. She also organised a guide for us for one day, which was a great introduction to Fez - highly recommended.
Extraordinary Riad. Massive. Beautiful. Stately.
As another reviewer mentioned, there is an opportunity for the host to attend to the finer details of the accommodation--there is a lot more potential there to make the stay exceptional. The lighting is a little 'wonky'. The cushions and appointments for the roof top decks--they have them but they are not really in tip top shape nor very comfortable. One gets the impression that if you really want to make the Riad someplace more than a sleepover, one would have to organize the appointments after arrival--there just isn't a lot of thought about this by the host. That said, the space is magnificent and with a few minor amenities and arrangements could be a spectacular place. By example, the place is really dimly lit at night but has all those candle luminairs which are unique to Morocco--we organized the purchase of candles and matches after arrival to make use of it all. It was spectacular once we set it up, but this is a place you must organize on your end.
Hicham was very helpful and the staff were excellent.
The only downside to our trip was the guide Hicham arranged. We really wanted a cultural and historical perspective and to limit the shopping. We communicated this in the front of the trip. The guide still brought us to a number of pressurized shopping situations--which is part of the drill in Fez--and something we can manage. The off-putting piece was the interaction with the guide became unnecessarily uncomfortable when we pushed away from shop owners without making a purchase. To the guide, it seemed obligatory that we would spend a few thousand dollars on rugs, a few hundred on leather goods, and a few more hundred on other odds and ends. Maybe this is the case with all Fez guides but we did not like the experience relative to other parts of our Moroccan trip which were guided.
Wonderful riad! The service was great and we had no issues during our stay.
Rabia, her husband, and children were wonderful guests! It was a pleasure being their host! Absolutely delightful experience!
