GREETINGS!!! We would like to welcome you to our family’s Big Sky Resort home. FYI, my wife and I bought the home in 1982 when there were only a handful of residences in the West Fork Meadows sub-division. Our back yard was a horse pasture. Mac and Ladora McBride who owned all of the original West Fork acreage lived a 100 yards to our west, and Bob Juel, his wife and their five children lived in the log home right next to us to the east.
More importantly, in this difficult economic period, there was a significant amount of concern that Chet Huntley’s mid 70’s vision for this special place symbolizing Montana’s natural beauty would even survive. But as you can tell, it has. And while it has become more diverse and grown a great deal, what hasn’t changed is its ever-present beauty, and the friendliness and caring nature of Big Sky people.
Our three children …Emily, Dan and Alex were 10, 8 and 4 years-old when we bought the home, and were not too much removed from the ages of our three grandsons, Oscar, Micah and Rowan.
For the first 10 years of ownership we used the home for family vacations, both winter skiing and the wonderful summertime. We also rented the home to guests, like you now represent, on a short term basis.
As our children grew up and went away to college, got jobs and went on with their lives, it became much more difficult to get us together in Montana. So in the mid-90s we made a decision to rent our home on a long-term basis, meaning that while it provided memories, personal use was not possible. This was the situation until 2011 when our long-term tenant decided to move his family back to Idaho.
This change prompted us to make a decision to re-engineer our home for family use again, and to invite guests, like you, to hopefully create your own Big Sky memories. This decision also meant the need to significantly upgrade and improve the home’s appearance and amenities. While we know it’s not a million dollar “+” mansion, we worked hard, along with our contractor Andy Dreisbach, to help make our home a warm and inviting place to have fun and experience Big Sky adventures. Thanks for coming!!
