We had a lovely stay at Josh's country home in Maine. The house was exactly as advertised on the listing, and provided really gorgeous views. It's a very cute, rustic country home. It's definitely out there in the country, so be sure to stock up on groceries and such before heading there.
We spent a long weekend in February at the house to do some skiing at Sunday River, which was quite convenient. It was only about a 25-30 minute trip to the mountain, and a very pretty drive.
Josh's communication was absolutely fantastic, as he provided us with very detailed directions to the house, stayed in touch throughout our stay, and even came and plowed the driveway a few times since there was some heavy snowfall. He made us feel right at home and we knew we could contact him if we ever needed him (not that we ever did). Wonderful host and a great place for a true country escape!
Joshua & his family greeted us at the house and made us very welcome.
When we arrived at the property Josh made sure everything was ok and if we needed anything!
The place was cozy and a lot more specious then I thought it would be. I was traveling with coworkers and we were looking for something different then just a hotel like we're used to and this is it. It's very secluded and make sure you do your shopping before you make your way there as there is no grocery stores within 17 miles of the location except a little one that doesn't have all the things a actual grocery store has!
During our stay Joshua was very accommodating when asked questions he at one point came by when we were out and left sand in the fire pit so we could have a s'mores night! He also was very attentive when asked about a fishing location he even left me a fishing pole to use!
It's right near woods as well as you can see on pictures so if you get nervous or scared around all black and not being able to see at night this is not a place for you!
Overall my coworkers and myself really enjoyed ourselves in the privacy and spacious place Josh offered and if ever in that area would consider his place!
Big thanks to Josh and his family. The house was just what we needed! Josh is an amazing host... going above and beyond to ensure that we had everything we needed for our stay in the beautiful Maine woods. Highly recommend!!
We had an amazing time at Josh's place. The "cabin" was actually a much
more spacious house than we anticipated and had all of the amenitities we
needed for a weekend getaway. The location was remote, but that was what we
were looking for. Josh and his family were nearby and incredibly helpful
and we would love to come back for another visit. If you're looking for a
true escape, you'll love this location!
Joshua was a wonderful host. We chose his rental in order to some winter hiking and snowshoeing and it was well situated for local snowshoeing as well as a trip to NH to the northern White Mountains. The house was clean and charming and had everything we needed. Joshua welcomed us personally and was easily accessible by phone - and in person when we were there. He was the most organized host with whom I have dealt and the reservation, check-in and stay went incredibly smoothly as he anticipated any questions we might have. The house had gorgeous views and was a remote, peaceful getaway. We stayed there in March but I can imagine that the fall would be a spectacular time to visit. I had absolutely no complaints about the visit and I plan on returning when my travels again take me to Maine.
Staying at the Flanders Knoll was amazing. When we arrived, the road was a bit slippery but Joshua was very helpful and made sure there was even more sand to help the little car go up the hill the next morning. In fact he was helpful and responsive before we even got there, recommending places and giving full directions that Google can't. The place is big and was equipped with everything (we even got the chance to borrow their snowshoes). Even when there was a snow storm, the generator started working right away so we never missed electricity nor heating. Location is perfect to enjoy the White Mountains and the city. We had the chance to do some cross-country skiing, snowshoe and hiking and weather was perfect! I definitely recommend this house built by the Spooner Family! Hopefully I get a chance to come back on summer time.
Hillside Retreat is truly a lovely place. Josh and his family maintain this well appointed home that is located on the edge of the White Mountains in Maine. From this location, we managed several amazing hikes in Grafton Notch State park, kayaked on the Keewaydin lake within walking distance of this home, grabbed some great beers at Ebenezer's Pub, and had an overall awesome time.
The home itself is spacious - able to sleep a family - and is located on the top of a lovely hill which affords fantastic views. We had absolutely no trouble and the place is exactly as described. Josh's sister lives locally, and provided us with information and keys. She also graciously loaned us a two person kayak.
If you're looking for a spot in western Maine, look no further.
A really nice family that we can highly recommend. very good handling use of the house and furnishings. We would be very happy if Josh, his wife, his parents and his two nice sons visit us again
