Will definitely help you with your NYC visit
Dean and Jane could not have been more hospitable. Their cottage and boat house are charming and their consideration and attention to detail was wonderful. We had a fantastic fall weekend in a perfect spot to enjoy the foliage and the gorgeous lake Warmaug. The Birdsnest is a great perch for your quintessential weekend.
beutiful view, beautiful house, thank you for the wine and the apple tv didn't hurt.
Wonderful at the Lake Waramaug, Dean is a great host. The house in the trees is just perfect :-) Very cool experience.
The lake is just in front of the house (after the road). You can use the canöe to take a tour on the beautiful lake.
Dean leave in the fridge some food for our breakfast, it was very kind :-)
The village of Kent is about 20mn, very charming.
We loved our gateway from Manhattan :-) We recommend of course
We had an amazing week at Dean's place!
Waramaug lake was extremely beautiful and relaxed, and it has super clean water and not many people - pretty perfect!
Dean and his wife were superb hosts, communication was excellent before and during our stay. They had a bunch of welcoming "goodies" waiting for us - like a nice bottle of wine, some basic food etc.
The house was just renovated and was clean, comfy and elegantly furnished. The kitchen is beautiful and fully loaded with cooking and eating utensils. Both bedrooms have plenty of windows and the bed we used was very comfortable! The bathroom was adequate and has a great shower. And, the over-sized screened balcony has plenty of sitting and a gas-grill - we enjoyed it a lot.
The dock was wonderful. We took Dean's double-kayak for trips along the lake, had some fun on his water-bike, and just enjoyed the serene lakeside view. At night we enjoyed the outdoor fireplace and the sounds of nature.
Obviously, we recommend it.
A nice little boat, with a surprisingly spacious, comfortable interior, floating in a private marina opposite Midtown Manhattan? What's NOT to like?? I would (and hopefully will) absolutely stay here again. The view of Manhattan is absolutely gorgeous day and (especially) night - you can see from the Chrysler building all the way down to the WTC.
As well as the two bedrooms, the boat has a little kitchen with seating area and a very comfy lounge with sofa and TV. You can also sit up on deck in good weather, which is just delightful. The restroom is tiny and the toilet doesn't deal too well with solids but the yacht club restrooms, which you have access to 24/7 are a few paces away.
It's a five minute ferry ride across the river to the 39th Street ferry terminal, which is expensive at $9 one-way, but there is also a bus that costs $2-$3 and only takes 15 minutes to the Port Authority bus terminal, very close to Times Square. Dean was only a phonecall away, should I have needed him, but everything went so smoothly that I had no need to disturb him.
Overall, a relaxing, scenic and different experience and certainly WAY cheaper than any hotel you might find on or near Manhattan. I loved it!
The location of the selkie is truly amazing - a view that is to die for! the area is quiet and very nice but with enough bars and restaurants within a stones throw so no need to go trekking off after a days sight seeing.
The views from the Chart House are wonderful - the food is good too. For the best steaks try ruth and chris's across the road - amazing! Best steaks in the world.
Never having stayed in a boat I was surprised at how snug everything is but enjoyed it nevertheless and would recommend to anyone wanting alternatives to the very expensive hotels in manhattan. Transport links excellent - bus and ferry both very nearby.
This was my second stay on Selkie, so hopefully that says it all. Dean is an incredible host, and if he is out of town, then Maria his assistant is literally a phone call away to help. The location offers spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline, and a peaceful retreat from the pace of the city. The ferry is two minutes walk from the marina, and while not cheap ($8.00 each way) it is an incredibly fast and relaxing way in and out of NYC. The bus and train are cheaper, and close by too. The rocking of the boat at night is so peaceful and relaxing. I will definitely book again. This is a unique New York experience, and adventure all in one. Cannot recommend it enough. Kaye
Working in manhattan. Very difficult commute. Probably fine for vacation but for work. Not so much. Dean was very responsive. Just not a fit for working in manhattan. Expensive to get back andd forth. My coworkers wanted to mutiny.
Staying on 'Selkie' is an absolute must do! I have a lived on and off in Manhattan, and the pace of the city is incredible. But, to be able to experience Manhattan from the Jersey-side of the Hudson River, and to enjoy a little peace and quite, and the breathtaking skyline everyday is a must do for anyone. Dean is a fantastic host, attentive, and helpful. The 'Selkie' has heaps of space, has all the facilities you need, and anything that isn't there is made irrelevant when you make a fresh cup of coffee, sit on deck taking in the view. Catching the Ferry to Manhattan is easy and quick. There are buses, the light rail, plenty of restaurants, an incredible walking path that runs north along the Hudson, and there is also Deans assistant Maria, who is happy to help you out with groceries or other errands. I loved my stay on 'Selkie', highly recommend it to anyway wanting a unique New York Experience, and have already booked again. Thank you Dean!
perfect stay!!! very easy access to manhattan via ferry, nice yacht easy to leave on board. amazing view! dean is a nice and friendly person.
Only note: DO NOT GO TO MASINA ITALIAN RESTAURANT (VERY BAD FOOD AND SERVICE). hulihan's forever!!
Dean and Jane are the quintessential host and hostess. Their Manhattan digs are awesome. After a day in the city, we relaxed on the deck with glorious wine, cheese and a view of the Manhattan skyline. Dinner topped with after dinner drinks, listening to the halyards slapping the neighboring masts and the twinkling lights reflecting in the Hudson, is one of my most memorable times in New York. And to rise to coffee and that view...I suggest it for everyone.
Dean is one of the best people that I have met on this planet. Having said said that, the only thing better than Dean would be the opportunity to stay on his amazing boat!!!! It is by far one of the coolest nyc living experiences around. Cheers Dean!!
