My name is Catherine. I am from New Zealand and England. I am touring around the world this year. As I am a cycling fan I decided to start in Adelaide for the Tour Down Under.
I very much enjoyed Adelaide, Melbourne, Darwin, Brisbane & Sydney. Aussie thumbs up!
Stopover in Honolulu was tedious.
Vancouver is fantastic.
I had a marvellous time on the train from Vancouver to Toronto.
Wasn't really taken with Toronto.
Ottawa was wonderful. Not only was my airbnb home wonderful, but I got to meet my favourite author, walks in the snowy park and a night out with him and his wife!
Montreal, what can say. Loved it. Easy walking but very cold.
New York City was brilliant. My airbnb home was marvellous.
I stayed in Brussels following the cycling spring classics and having a wonderful time at the races.
I went to Italy following Giro d'Italia in Naples, exciting and beautiful with a great apartment, Florence, I stayed at Fiesole which was wonderful, very comfortable and friendly, Cordenons felt so at home I wanted to stay, ( with a short stop in Rome - what a great place so easy to get around when there's someone to show you how). I made it to Mori for the time trial from staying in Verona and went to Brescia for the finish.
After all the excitement of Il Giro I spent a few days in Trieste. What a lovely city. Just love being by the sea. Had to then get all the way to Bari to catch a ferry to Dubrovnik. I didn't see much if Bari but my airbnb host was really helpful and kind so at least I left having had a good nights sleep and a great meal.
wandered a bit in Croatia and got to Ljubljana for the start of the Tour of Slovenia. - the people I met in Croatia, particularly Palma in Split, and the beautiful countryside will never be forgotten. I hope to come back some day soon. Loved Ljubljana so much it really felt like home and my airbnb host was another amazing person on my trip. I have been so fortunate.
After a stop with new friends in Vienna, I stayed in Ventimiglia. The hills & view are amazing & of course I picked the right hosts again.
Nice is nice - so corny but true, however it's very expensive as well. But the Team Time Trial was really exciting and the mussels were fantastic.
Aix-en-Provence was next stop & I got to stay for a while & ride my hosts bike :-) then off to Lyon, Grenoble for Alpe D'Huez, and so to Paris.
Overnight train to Berlin was not such a good idea, but Berlin itself was fantastic.
Krakow next for the Tour of Poland. Nice town, dodgy hire bikes, great riding, lots of fun. On to Bratislava, Slovakia which was wonderful. Goes on my list as one of the top favourites and my airbnb host was incredible. Sorry I had to leave, but Belgium was calling a me back with the Eneco Tour, but I had to go via Frankfurt first. Didn't think I'd go back to Brussels but so glad I did.
On to Spain to see La Vuelta a Espana. Stopped in Barcelona first. had a great time for the festival in gracias with wondeful host.
Pontevedra wasnt that great. Santiago de compostela was interesting and had great host. Got lost a couple of times in A Coruna! Hated Zaragoza. but the racing in tarazona was brilliant. Bilbao was a super stay and the city is so easy to walk around plus the Guggenheim! Everyone in Santander was fantastic from my host to the other cycling fans on the mountain. Oviedo was definitely a place i liked. wish I could have stayed there longer. Loads to see and do in Madrid even without the cycle racing.
Enough already - you get the picture
