The whole experience was magical! Although we did not meet Christel in person, she gave full contact details and responded to our inquiries quickly and thoroughly before and during our stay. Her representative Rachid was courteous, honest and endlessly patient with our stuttering french. He was kind and charming and very protective of our group particularly our Daughters. We told him what we would like to visit and then trotted behind as he led us the best way, this is important as the riad is tucked away amidst local houses.
The riad itself is really lovely, the photographs do not lie and everything is clean and well cared for by Khamisa. We loved the bathrooms and were very grateful for the air conditioned bedrooms. We booked a dinner to be cooked at the house for the last night which was delicious. You feel you are experiencing 'authentic' Marrakech with a bit of luxury thrown in!
We would definitely recommend riad Jawhar to other travellers and would certainly like to visit again ourselves. Make sure you get the full address before you arrive and collect a form on the plane to fill in for passport control. They are very hot on that.
Myself and 10 friends from NYC stayed at Christel's RIAD for 4 night in May 2015. The feeling was unanimous: we could not have been happier with our decision to stay in this riad.
Christel is a very nice and helpful host. She answered all my questions prior to arrival in a timely manner. She was even kind enough to answer other questions about Morocco (i.e. where to exchange money) and to suggest some tours for us. She arranged airport transfers for all of us (we came in on 3 separate flights). Drivers were waiting for us when we landed.
The Riad is beautiful and is an excellent value. It sleeps 12 people comfortably. Its perfect for a big group of people. There is a nice dining area, a great kitchen, living room, lounge area and small pool on the bottom floor. The middle floor has most of the bedrooms. The third floor has one bedroom and a roof deck. The roof deck is quite large and has some nice views of the city. The Riad is clean and comfortable. Most of the rooms have air conditioning that works. Beds were comfortable. All the bedrooms have toilets/showers. There are no doors to the bathrooms but this is true for most riads and it wasn't a big deal for us. If too many people are taking a shower at once the hot water can run out. The riad contains a safe which is convenient. WIFI works well. FYI: there is no local phone in the riad
The location of the Riad is fantastic. It is a 5-10 min walk to Jemaa el Fnaa. The walk itself is direct and takes you through many souks and shops. There are some supermarkets/delis right outside the riad which is nice to load up on groceries and water.
Christel asked us if we wanted to have her housekeeper cook breakfast each morning for an additional fee of 4 euro per person per day. We took her up on this offer and it was a great idea. Food was cooked by the time we woke up and the food was very good.
Christel's friend Rachid acted as our concierge while we were there. He was a great resource. He spoke enough English that we could communicate with him. He even gave us a tour (for a fee) of some of the tourist attractions in Marrakech. Word of advice: getting a tax cab in Marrakech can be difficult if you are not staying in a hotel. Taxi drivers in the main square will try to rip you off and become aggressive when trying to get you into their cab. My friends and I used Rachid/Christel for all our transportation because we trusted them. I would recommend arranging all your transportation/taxis with them.
Overall I would highly recommend this riad to anyone visiting Marrakech and wants to stay in a traditional riad in the medina. Its best for big groups
Our stay in Christels's riad was just amazing. When we arrived we met Rachid who guided us to the accommodation. Since it is located in the medine you can only get there on foot or using a bike. Furthermore the medine sometimes looks like a maze and it was very nice to have Rachid showing us how to get there. Btw, after you have walked the route in and out of the medina it is quite easy to find your way back.
The riad itself was just wonderful. We were a group of seven and the riad was large enough for us. We even had a spare bed. The bedrooms were nice and comfortable. Only thing that could be improved is the bathrooms lack a curtain. The kitchen is well equiped. We prepared breakfast ourselfs every morning and enjoyed it at the roof terrace. There is a local bakery nearby that sells freshly baked bread.
Every morning a very kind lady came by to clean the house. The house was always very neat. I will definetly stay here again and certainly would recommand this accommodation to others.
The pictures are amazing and yet they do not do justice to seeing it in person. The Riad is beyond incredible, each room is done perfectly with its own bathroom and decor, simply stunning. The Riad was spotless when we arrived. Christel is very accessible and very accommodating. Rachid, the manager, and Mohamad, one of the drivers, are both pleasant and accommodating as well. I rented out the entire Riad and it was like coming home to an oasis, could not be more pleased. I also suggest to have Marika cook breakfast everyday, it was a great way to start to the day, and she is as sweet as can be.
Location.... close to everything, I could not have picked a more perfect location, you can walk to New town, and the souks and the big market are a 5 minute walk, it was convenient to everything we wanted to do.
I will be staying here again, and have all ready referred this place to a couple friends, you will not be disappointed.
The experience went above and beyond anything I could have imagine, thank you so much for a wonderful experience!!!
Quietly located in the busy medina. Very nice riad. Beautiful roof terrace and comfortable rooms.
the riat is great. Not easy to find in the beginning, but you get used to it. Is has all privacy you want and is close to the medina. The decoration is done with care and the help to make breakfast or dinner is just great
We were a large group and really enjoyed our stay in the Riad. Christel and Rachid took fantastic care of us and helped us with transfers and meals while we were there. The Riad itself is beautiful and in a fantastic location in the medina, close to everything. Thank you very much for a wonderful stay!
We found the location traditional and authentic, especially as it was surrounded by locals thereby allowing us to catch a glimpse of the real Marrakech.
The Riad itself was full of charm and we really liked the layout of the rooms coupled with the courtyard, pool and various areas to relax.
The only feedback we would provide is that it would have been useful to include shower curtains or similar for privacy in the en suite rooms.
Other than that, it was a wonderful experience and we really liked the small touches such as the decorating ornaments, position of the lighting throughout the riad, the roof terrace and also the speakers conspicuously mounted in the courtyard.
We would certainly recommend this Riad to others visitors, if not for any of the aforementioned reasons, at least to give them an opportunity to meet Khamissa who served as the perfect host.
